BODACIOUS EAGLE
by Tracy Gantz
Ahalf-hour before he won the Dash For Cash Futurity-G1 with Famous Little Reba, owner Johnny Trotter captured the Dash For Cash Derby-G3 with Bodacious Eagle.
It was a vindication for the gelding, who has qualified for so many of racing’s biggest events but hadn’t taken home a stakes trophy.
“He never has been lucky enough to get away from the gate or be
just right,” said Trotter. “He
obviously runs better with
Ricky Ramirez on him than he does anybody else.”
Ramirez chose to ride Bodacious Eagle, and it was an excellent decision. Candy Cartels Cat and Bodacious Eagle broke on top and turned the first part of the 440-yards into a match race. After about 100 yards, Bodacious Eagle put away the filly to win hand- ily by 1 1/4-lengths in :21.386.
“Today he broke awesome,” said Ramirez.
Last year, Bodacious Eagle ran 3rd in the Ruidoso Futurity-G1, 4th in the Rainbow Futurity-G1, and 5th in the All American Futurity-G1. He also qualified for the Los Alamitos $2 Million Futurity-G1 and this year’s Rainbow Derby-G1.
La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC bred Bodacious Eagle in
Oklahoma from the winning mare Bodacious Dream. The mare has produced 7 winners from 11 starters. Bodacious Eagle’s second dam, Dashing Phoebe, is a 2-time Champion who produced Champions Heartswideopen and Special Phoebe, as well as 3 other stakes winners.

Ascencion Jr. Tanner Thedford piloted the colt, who earlier won the Corona Cartel Stakes, Rainbow Juvenile Invitational, and Dash For Cash Juvenile Invitational.
G.R. Carter Jr. rode Tempting Destiny (Tempting Dash-Dashingfordestiny) to third for trainer Michael Joiner. Linda Joiner, Mark James Allen, Leonard Blach, and Henry Southway own the gelding, who won the West Texas Derby-G3 earlier this year.
Completing the field were Candy Cartels Cat (Red Storm Cat-Candy Cartel), Paint Me Perry (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Baby Perry), Ipolito (Apollo-TB-Seychelle), Volcoms Thunder (Volcom-Ill Getcha Good), Redemption Star (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Strawfly Sting), and Jess Dance (Mr Jess Perry-Charm Dance). Marys Coronitas was scratched.

 Miss Roxie Little Futurity
WH KENNY G
by Michael Compton
WH Kenny G is getting the hang of being a racehorse. While it took the 2-year-old gelding four starts to earn his initial win, he hasn’t tasted defeat since. Continuing a roll that began in August, Ronald Brown and Robert Ray’s colorbearer rattled off his 4th consecu- tive victory in taking down top prize in the $193,500 Miss Roxie Little Futurity at Indiana Grand on Oct. 24, Indiana’s second-richest Quarter Horse race in history.
Leaving the gate cleanly once posed a problem for WH Kenny G. It wasn’t an issue in the Miss Roxie Little Futurity. Ridden by Jose Beltran, WH Kenny G broke smartly and assumed the early lead. He opened a 1/2-length lead in the lane, pulling clear late to win the 350-yard test by 3/4-length. His final time over a muddy (sealed) track was :17.427 (ticks off of Debs

RQD’s 5-year-old track record of :17,390), for 105 speed index in his initial stakes score.
“He broke really clean and ran hard,” said Beltran, who partnered with WH Kenny G
in his maiden-breaking effort but didn’t ride him in his Oct. 10 trial win in which the geld- ing set the 4th fastest qualifying time. “He was much better tonight,” said Beltran
The $106,425 winner’s share increased WH Kenny G’s bankroll to $129,829 and improved his
record to 7-4-0-1.
“He is getting better and
better with every start,” said Brown who co-owns/trains WH Kenny G. “I thought he would improve tonight over his last start. He ran like a snake last time out, but he straightened out better tonight and (Jose) Beltran got him to the wire.”
Brown and Ray, who also partnered on 2014 Indiana
Horse of the Year Pistolpacking Pepsi, purchased WH Kenny G as a yearling last fall for $12,000.
WH Kenny G is out of stakes winner Designer Dash. The mare is the dam of 8 win- ners, including additional stakes winner Stars Falling and stakes-placed Chicks Dash Easy.
Fantastic Six Pack (Fantastic Corona Jr-Six Packin Robin) was 2nd under Christian Esqueda for Duke Racing LLC & trainer Matt Frazier.
