Valley Junction Futurity
STREAKIN PR
by Michael Compton
Streakin PR earned the first stakes victory of his young career with a determined effort in the $213,557 Valley Junction Futurity on Oct. 10 at Prairie Meadows.
Sent off as the 2nd wagering choice, Streakin PR, the 2nd fastest qualifier after win- ning his Sept. 26 trial by 1 14-lengths behind only race favorite Undaunted, raced in 5th position in the early stages
of the 350-yard finals. With
jockey Cesar Gomez riding
for trainer Kasey Willis,
Streakin PR closed with a
rush in the lane to defeat
Undaunted by a neck at the
finish, stopping the timer in
:17.802 for an 87 speed index.
The $85,423 winner’s share increased Streakin PR’s lifetime bankroll to $134,809 and improved his record to 8-3-3-0. In addition to this stakes tally, Streakin PR is
also stakes-placed, having finished 2nd in Remington Park’s Laico Bird Stakes in April.
Bred in Oklahoma by Pine Ridge Farm, Streakin PR is owned by Thomas Scheckel.
The gelding is produced from 3-time winner and graded stakes-placed Bonnie Streakin. With a lifetime tab of 10-3-0-1, the mare earned $19,098 in her career, finishing 3rd in the Oklahoma
Futurity-G2 and 7th in the 2005 Oklahoma Derby-G3.
Streakin PR broke his maiden at first asking at Remington Park in March and has started in 4 stakes events since, 3 of which he had to qualify for. His Valley Junction trial win followed a 6th-place finish in the Mile High Futurity on Aug. 16.
Valley Junction runner-up Undaunted (Corona Cartel-Jess Genuine) made the sojourn
to Prairie Meadows after a
productive summer at Ruidoso Downs where he was 3rd in the Rainbow Juvenile. Brian Muse trains the colt for Undaunted 13. With jockey Raul Gutierrez aboard, Undaunted pressed the early pace and just missed at the wire. Undaunted is still in search of his initial stakes score.
Dianas Tres Seis (Tres Seis-Tempered
Reb), a 36-1 long shot ridden by Jorge Torres, offered game chase to the wire and held 3rd for trainer Allen Hybsha. The filly races for Leo Timmerman and Sherry and Jay Debord.
Followed by First Prize Corina (Spit Curl Jess-First Prize Corona), Divas Candy Girl, (Spit Curl Jess-Some Kinda Diva) Ja Whole Lotta Gol (Gol-Ja Impetupusly), Valiant Norther (Valiant Hero-Fast Red Rose), Fast Ferdinand (Hez Fast as Cash-Rodeo Moon Girl), Carey Corona (Corona Cartel-Ity Bitty Rarity) & Painted Streaks (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Streakin Rare).

Jim Bader Futurity
THE FISCAL CLIFF
by Michael Compton
Prairie Meadows brought the curtain down on its 2015 Quarter Horse meeting on Oct. 10 with Iowa Quarter Horse Champions Night.
Among the Iowa-bred stars of the evening was Tom Lepic’s precocious homebred The Fiscal Cliff, winner of the $200,700 Jim Bader Futurity.
The Fiscal Cliff entered the Jim Bader a win- ner of five consecutive races, including a wire- to-wire 4 1/2-length victory in the Sept. 25 trials for the fastest qualifying time.
He fell just a neck shy of being
undefeated in his first six
starts, and fans sent him to the
post as a deserving odds-on
favorite. He didn’t disappoint,
running his win streak to six
with another impressive out-
ing for trainer Kasey Willis.
With regular pilot Cesar Gomez up, The Fiscal Cliff broke alertly from the 10-spot and raced in 4th through the early stages of the 350-yard
test. Once The Fiscal Cliff lengthened his stride, he made short work of his 9 rivals. He sailed past the early leaders and finished powerfully, crossing the finish for a 2 1/2-length victory.
With seemingly plenty left in the tank, The Fiscal Cliff stopped the timer in :17.681, earn- ing a speed index of 90.
“He is a special colt,” Lepic, who has served as president of the Iowa Quarter Horse Association
for the last five years. “I know for a fact our jockey hasn’t hit him one time with the crop in his last three races. The horse just loves to run. There aren’t too many like him.”
It was the 3rd stakes win of the year for The Fiscal Cliff. He captured the Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational in May and annexed the Iowa Double Gold Futurity in August prior to his victory in the Jim Bader Futurity. His record now
stands at 7-6-1-0, and the $80,280 winner’s share of the purse raised his bankroll to $217,521.
The full brother to stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Wagon Tales is produced from the winning mare Signs Zoomer.
Christine Hovey’s Iowas Texan TLP (Tempting Dash-Corona Del Rae) was 2nd under David Pinon for trainer Edward Hardy. Leonard Reed’s Give a Wink (Talkalota Bull- Special Bold Chick) was 3rd under Jesus Salazar for trainer Jason Olmstead. Followed by There Goes My Wallet (Mr Piloto-Coronita Cartel), WRS Quick Eagle (One Famous Eagle-WRS Quick Sister), One Delightful Eagle (One Famous Eagle-In A Small Package), Baja Blues Girl (Jess Louisiana Blue-Baja Rosa), Ivory Smoke (Ivory James-Easy Sailin Kiss), Colonel Deetz (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Brimin Special) & Iris Pilotos Flash (Mr Piloto-Pure Royal Dash).
