Carl Pevehouse has bred several genera- tions of Jess Good Candy’s family, and Nolan has done the same with Painted Turnpike. He began with the fifth dam, the Quarter Horse Turnpike Patty. The second dam, Turnpikes Texas Hero, was the first Paint in the family.
Stakes-placed High Class Turnpike, the dam of Painted Turnpike, was the Paint Champion Running 3 Year Old and Champion Running 3-Year-Old Filly of 2007. She has produced two winners from three starters. Nolan Pevehouse likes the mare’s coming 2 year old, Turnpikers Wagon, a full brother to Painted Turnpike. He has the mare in foal to Brace For Bernal and is considering breeding her to Apollitical Jess next year.
Bull APHA (Cartel Success QH-Memories Of Texas) finished second for jockey Jorge Torres, trainer Jason Olmstead, and owner Buddy Albin. The colt also ran third in the Speedhorse Graham and second in the Victoria Ennis Memorial.
Jose Vega piloted Sturgis APHA (Dos Poruno-Biker Chick ) to third. Dee Keener trains the colt for the Paint Horse Queens, a partnership that includes Keener’s wife, Wendy. Sturgis also finished second in the Colors of the Alamo Futurity.
Completing the field were Wagonette APHA (PYC Paint Your Wagon QH-Shawne Chick), DTL Head Honcho APHA (SF
Royal Quick Flash-Okey Dokey Chic), Texas Snowman APHA (SM Country Snowman-Just Call Me Lonesome), Imahotchicken APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Game Chicken), Psychedelic Scott APHA (Judys Lineage-The Hippie Chick QH), and Face Paint APHA (Freighttrain B QH-Linda Lajolla). Paleface Cartel APHA was scratched.
