SILVER PERRY
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The consolation was run with the participants between 11 to 20 in the overall timesheets obtained in the qualifying races, disputing an award of 420,850 pesos (US $25,446).
The odds to win favored Tres Carano,
who qualified with the second best time but
also on July 19 won the final of the Stallion Futurity. Second in the preferences was Lafishingonabugsmoon, who in her previous outing positioned herself with the best time for this race. Silver Perry, the eventual winner, placed as the fifth favorite choice with odds of 7.50.
The order for the start was given and immediately Sea Corona (#1) went to the front very near the inner rail. At around 60-yards, Silver Perry (#4) received a lateral impact on his hindquarters from Game Sambaso (#3), who was bumped by N Secret (#2). Yards
after this incident, and when it seemed that Sea Corona’s escape was certain, he collapsed on the sandy track along with his rider Jose Manuel Rosado, eventually being euthanized.
From that point, Silver Perry took com- mand of the race under the intense harassment of Three Carano (#6) who, with each stride, was subtracting his advantage but ended a neck behind the sorrel Silver Perry. The clock struck :17.67 for an 83 SI. The winning ride was jockey Lauro Vazquez.
Silver Perry races for Cuadra Gomac, owned by Miss Cassandra Godinez, who along with her parents, Juan Jose Godinez and Marisa Martinez del Real, went to the winner’s circle to receive the appropriate recognition. It was Silver Perry’s eighth race and second victory with three arrivals in third. He was saddled
by trainer Juan Ignacio Silva Carrillo. For this win, he was accredited with 252,510 pesos (US $15,267 approximately) to his total earnings.
The colt was bred by Everardo Múzquiz Elgueazábal, owner of the stallion Jesstified and the mare Ziplock Chick (by Chicks Beduino). Jesstified is a clasico winner of $116,130. Ziplock Chick never raced, but from her
two foals stands Sambaso Chic (by Sambaso Dancer), a winner of five in 10 races with dividends of $44,808 arising mainly from his victories in the Stallion Derby, Clasico Hector Roldan Espinosa and Premio Mayo First.
Second place went to Tres Carano (Tres Ruby - Princess Carano) carrying jockey Jose Luis Santos. He is owned by Cuadra San Rafael and was saddled by Raymundo Sandoval.
Lady Exploradora (Xplorador - Lucky Lady Dancer) placed third backed by Paul Osvaldo
Rodriguez for Rancho Las Gaviotas and trainer Alfredo Rabanal Salinas.
At the conclusion of the
competition, the steward-
ess disqualified the colt N
Secret from fourth to eighth.
The other positions went
to: Lafishingonabugsmoon (Nofishinonafullmoon –
A Special Lady Bug), N
Samazit (Native Cartel
– Sameaziteverwas), Sea
Corona Cash (Sea Horse Corona – Streakin With Cash), Game Sambaso (Sambaso Dancer – The Answer Lady), N Secret (Native Cartel – Queen Secret), Six To Corona (Sea Horse Corona – MPC Six To Go) & Sea Corona (Sea Horse Corona – Royal Band TB), who did not cross the finish line due to the accident.
