The photo on page 163 shows the winning connections after Dash For Cash won his first ever race by 2 1/4-lengths in the Spring Futurity tri- als at Lubbock Downs on March 8, 1975. After qualifying to the finals, Dash For Cash set his first of 2 New Track Records in the finals in only his second career start. The race was the first of 8 consecutive victories in his freshman season. Dash For Cash (Rocket Wrangler-Find A Buyer TB, To Market) raced until 5 years of age, earning $507,689 and won 21 of 25 starts, including 9 stakes. He was named the 1976 & 1977 World Champion; the 1976 Champion 3 Year Old & Champion 3-Year-Old Colt; and the 1977 Champion Aged Horse & Champion Aged Stallion. Dash For Cash was bred by B F. Phillips, Jr., trained by Charles “Bubba” Cascio and owned by B. F. Jr. and Anne Phillips/King Ranch, Inc.
Dash For Cash has sired nearly $40 million in earners and is the #2 all-time leading sire of Champions with 18 - second only to his son First Down Dash. Dash For Cash is the #1 all-time leading broodmare sire of Champions with 20.
In 1977, Los Alamitos announced plans to run the first Dash For Cash Futurity. The same year, the sorrel stallion was sold for $1.5 million to Brown Badgett and stood at stud at Buena Suerte Ranch. He was then syndicated for $2.5 million to 40 shareholders. In 1996, Dash For Cash was euthanized at the age of 23 due to complications of equine protozoal encephalomyelitis. A granite memorial was dedicated to him at the AQHA Heritage center. In 2005, Dash For Cash made the Sports Illustrated list of 25 most amazing animals.
On Oct. 10 at Lone Star Park, the $448,515 Dash For Cash Futurity-G1 was won by Famous Little Reba, the $194,100 Dash For Cash Derby-G3 was won by Bodacious Eagle, and the $49,835 Dash For Cash Juvenile was won by Satcha Wagoneer.
