Hair testing as condition of entry for Remington Park Quarter Horse Mixed Meet in 2019
Remington Park and Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association with approval of the OHRC have jointly agreed to implement a House Rule during the 2019 QH Mixed Meet requiring a clean DNA hair test free of any prohibited drugs be submitted for every horse prior to entry in any race at the meet. Additional detailed information regarding collection and testing will be available to horsemen prior to the opening of the meet.
For more information contact OQHRA or Remington Park Racing Office, oqhra@aol.com or tim.williams@remingtonpark.com.
Racing Owners Participation Fee
A racing participation fee will be assessed annually to all recorded owners of race starters. Recorded owner of multiple horses will pay fee one time if the exact name is the same on all horses. Payment will be due on or before March 1 annually with late fees assessed after March 1.
Non-payment of the owner participation fee will not reflect on a horse’s past performance as records will be kept on all horses; however, if a horse qualifies for any award they will be ineligible to receive if fee or subsequent late payment penalty has not been paid.
All racing year-end awards will be awarded to the owner or lessee on record as of Dec. 31 of the qualifying year, given the owner or lessee on record has paid all fees and is a current member. (See fee schedule in front of the APHA Rule Book)
Racing Fee Schedule:
Annual Racing Participation fee: $25 due by March 1. Late fee: $100 after March 1
Regional Racing Awards
Regional racing awards will be presented on an annual basis to horse/owner, breeder, and trainer in five regions. Regional awards will be determined by the following system:
a) Horse/owner per region based on APHA
honor roll points (see Rule RA-060.D1);
b) Breeder and Trainer will be based on total money
earned in that region—the five regions are: Northwest (WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, ND, SD, UT), Eastern (MI, KY, FL), Central (OK, CO), Southwest (TX, AZ, NM, CA) and Canada.
Winner must be a current APHA member to receive their award. Regional awards will be presented at the 2019 January Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale.

The photo on page 189 shows Corona Kool (First Down Dash-Sizzling Lil, Sizzle Te), the 1999 Champion 2-Year-Old Filly & 2001 Champion Aged Mare, returning under Sam Thompson after winning the 2001 Charger Bar Handicap-G1 for Lucas Racing Inc. & trainer Donna MacArthur at Los Alamitos.
Corona Kool was bred by Robert Etchandy out of stakes placed winner Sizzling Lil, an AQHA Dam of Distinction and the 2001 AQHA Broodmare of the Year. Foaled in 1997, Corona Kool raced from 2 until 6, winning 14 of 27 starts and $1,296,797. Beside the Charger Bar Handicap-G1, she won 7 additional stakes including the Grade 1 Ed Burke Memorial Futurity, Los Alamitos Million Futurity, Los Alamitos Invit. Championship, Los Alamitos Winter Championship, and Los Alamitos Derby.
Corona Kool raced with flashes of brilliance, but she had her share of trouble. She flipped in the gates prior the All American Futurity trials and was vanned off the track. Then, she collapsed on the backside after the Golden State Futurity. She got up on her own, but it was found that she had a partially paralyzed & inflamed flapper valve that restricted oxygen intake. A tongue tie fixed the problem, and she continued her stellar career. “I look back at everything she’s gone through . . . and marvel at her,” McArthur once said of Corona Kool. In every race photo, never once were her ears pinned back – a sign of a horse racing at full speed. “Her running style is to go out there and just float like a little deer with her ears pricked forward,” McArthur said. “That’s fine with me.”
Corona Kool retired from the track in 2003 and became a successful broodmare. She
produced 100% money earners from 14 starters, including 2009 Mile High Futurity winner Triffle and her top earner in 2011 California Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Gelding Filthy Fast.
This year’s $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap-G1 was won by Thermonuclear Energy on Jan. 6.
Note: The late Sam Thompson, Corona Kool’s regular rider, was honored in 2016 with a Jim Stuckenberg bronze depicting the jockey aboard the filly and is permanently on display at Los Alamitos. The annual Sam Thompson Memorial Jockey Award presented by Speedhorse in conjunction with the Jockeys’ Guild also honors the memory
of Sam Thompson by encouraging Quarter Horse jockeys to aspire to the standards he set and to recognize those whose careers & character make positive contributions to Quarter Horse racing.
