Fulton is described as New Mexico State University’s largest single donor, having given more than $17 million for projects ranging from the football stadium to endowed professorships.
Fulton grew up in Maryland, attended the University of Maryland before joining the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s. He owned multiple companies, including Future Coin, which developed the first video slot machine.

Ruidoso Downs announced it will offer a $2 million All American Triple Crown Futurity Bonus to the connections of any horse that can win the Grade 1 Ruidoso, Rainbow and the
All American futurities; and a $1 million All American Triple Crown Derby Bonus for the connections of any horse that can win the Grade 1 Ruidoso, Rainbow and the All American derbies.
January 7
Longtime jockey agent Monty Ohlemacher passed away at the age of 67 due to a rare form of pancreatic cancer. Ohlemacher was a Quarter Horse trainer at Los Alamitos for many years and a top agent for 30 years, managing the books for riders such as Eddie Garcia, Cody Jensen and Ramon Sanchez. He also worked with major stakes winning riders Carlos Aguilar, Carlos Bautista and Tony Guymon.

The Ontario Racing Board of Directors approved the 2018-19 Quarter Horse Racing Industry Development Program. The program is projected to provide more than $3.5 million in total purses and incentives. A Mare Breeding Incentive will
be introduced to encourage breeding of Quarter Horse mares in Ontario, the goal of which is to increase the future racing population by providing a $1,000 incentive to eligible participants upon breeding a mare. The Third Start Bonus, which provides a $1,000 incentive to the trainer of record on the completion of three starts at Ajax Downs during the season, will continue in 2018-19.

Turf Paradise announced that “all Phone Betting Accounts for Arizona residents will no longer
be active. This includes phone betting accounts with TVG, Twin Spires, Xpressbet and Turf Paradise Bets.” Vincent Franzia, general manager of Turf Paradise, said limitations on the 2014 law hampered chances of increasing revenue to tracks and horsemen and led to a decision not to renew contracts with ADW companies.

Champion and Champion barrel sire Reds Western Native (On The Money Red-Fols Native Bird, Fol’s Native TB) passed away. He was a NBHA National Champion & 3-Time State Champion, and sired winners such as Reds Flyinbyu, Golden Ratio, Natives Okie Rose and Natives Special Moon.
