Longtime horseman
John Andreini, 90,
passed away. Andreini
was the founder,
CEO and chairman of the board of Andreini and Company, an independently owned insurance brokerage firm he established in 1951. He also built JL Ranch, a 2,500 acre breeding, racing and cattle operation in California. Andreini served as Gov. Schwarzenegger’s appointee to the California Horse Racing Board and in various roles in the American Quarter Horse Association and Pacific Quarter Horse Racing Association. He was also part of the partnership that bought Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino and Ruidoso Horse Sales. Andreini
was part of the first syndicate of owners for First Down Dash, and he also held syndicates shares in Corona Cartel, Fishers Dash, Mr Jess Perry, One Famous Eagle and Stel Corona. He was the owner of Champion Jumping Tac Flash, as well as many other top Quarter Horses. Andreini received the 2008 AQHA Gordon Crone Award, recognizing his achievements in the Quarter Horse industry.

The Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association offered an additional incentive to owners on top of the more than $885,000 in purse money that was up for grabs as part of the California Breeders’ Champions Night card, paying the $300 start fee for each horse racing that night. With 94 horses, PCQHRA paid $28,200 in additional money.

Jockeys at Indiana Grand participated in the annual “PDJF Racing Across America” to help raise awareness and funding for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF). Indiana
Grand was one of 25 tracks across North America participating in the event. The jockeys participated in several events at the track, including tug of war between the Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse jockeys. Since 2006, the PDJF has disbursed over $9 million to jockeys, many of whom have paralysis or brain injuries.

The new 8,640 square-foot chapel at Ruidoso Downs Race Track opened for services. The building is divided equally between kids’ program facilities, meal fellowships and a place of worship that seats nearly 300 people. One unique feature of the chapel is a prayer room that will be open 24 hours, 365 days a year.

Eddie Garcia was honored in the winner’s
circle after becoming the first jockey to win
150 Quarter Horse stakes races at Los Alamitos Race Course. He reached this milestone in the $198,000 Governor’s Cup Derby-RG3 on July 28, going wire-to-wire for a 1 1/4-length victory aboard Black Fryday. Garcia was the winner
of the 2015 Sam Thompson Memorial Jockey Award.

The 2018 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held at Retama Park Race Track. The inductees included Bold Venture, Tom Durant, Jim Helzer, Julianna Hawn Holt, Corey Johnson, One Famous Eagle and Todd Pletcher, with Chaplain Mike Bingaman receiving the JoAnn Weber Distinguished Service Award.
June E. Holeman won the BFA World Championship open 4D 2nd Go in 2013.
   June E. Holeman passed away at the age of 75. Holeman won numerous NCRA, NSRA and M-SRA Championships during her rodeo career starting in the 1960’s, as well as several Prairie Circuit Championships. She qualified to the NFR in 2005 on Sparky Impression, aka Little Sparky, and to the first RFD Tv’s “The American” rodeo on a home raised horse named Tall Boy.
