  John Alleman Memorial Stakes-RG3
TAYLORS TOASTIN PAPA
by John Moorehouse
Make it four wins in a row for Taylors Toastin Papa. Gerald Libersat’s stal- lion continued a hot streak that began last
December, this time charging to victory in the $50,000 John Alleman Memorial Stakes-RG3 on April 27, opening night for Quarter Horses at Delta Downs.
Trained by Kevin Broussard, Taylors Toastin Papa had no equal in this race, going wire-to-wire and completing
the 350-yard trip in :17.480
with jockey Donald Watson
aboard. The stallion now
boasts eight wins in 26 outs.
Taylors Toastin Papa now holds two stakes victories, both of which have come during his current win streak. He also won the Mr Jess Perry held in February at Louisiana Downs. All three of the previous wins came
at 350 yards, and Taylors
Toastin Papa continued to show he is solid
at that distance in the Alleman. Watson brought the stallion out of the rail post at the front of the 10-horse field. He maintained that advantage, beating Heza Gonna Dash to the finish line by a neck.
The victory produced a $30,000 payday for Libersat, and boosted Taylors Toastin Papa’s total earnings to $157,541. Nearly half of that amount
has been accounted for during the four-race win streak.
Taylor VanBebber bred Taylors Toastin Papa out of Tacha La Jolla. Six of Tacha La Jolla’s seven foals are starters, but Taylors Toastin Papa is the solitary stakes winner. Pantera Sin Tacha,
a half-brother to Taylors Toastin Papa, is stakes-placed, finishing third in the 2008 Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity-RG2.
Heza Gonna Dash finished second for owner Oscar Alcantara. The gelding is
trained by Barbara Alcantara and had Martin Rubalcava in the irons. Blue Louisiana Jolla (Jess Louisiana Blue-Somekinda Rainey), a 10-1 underdog, hit the board third by a neck. The gelding is owned by Elroy Potts Jr. and Watson Land and Cattle. Elroy Potts Sr. trains the geld- ing, ridden by Jarrod Deschamp.
Eyesa Flash (First To Shine-Shawnee
Eyes) reached the wire fourth, followed by Zupers Quick Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Oh Shez Zuper) and Worlds On High (Game Patriot- Sissyisonahigh). Martini Mountain (Panther Mountain-Glitz Gator) and Xtreme Fashion (Gros Oreille-Fun Fashion) dead-heated for sev- enth. De Toast Devin (Toast To Dash-Bell Perry) and Mr Courtneys Fortune (Game Patriot- Rockets Fortune) completed the field.

   The Getaway Stakes
CORONAS BOY
by Stacy Pigott
The 2011-2012 Sunland Park season was good to Coronas Boy, who won three of his four races during the meet including the $50,000 Getaway Stakes on closing day, April 17.
Trained by Hermengildo Aldavaz, Coronas Boy was winless in four starts prior to the Sunland Park season. On Dec. 16, 2011, he ran third in a trial to the 400-yard Shue Fly Handicap-RG2 before taking a two-month break from the races, during
which time Aldavaz switched tactics with the Mr Houston gelding. Returning on Feb. 24, 2012, Coronas Boy stretched out to 870 yards
for the first time in a New Mexico-bred maiden race, easily breaking his maiden by 3 3/4 lengths.
Three weeks later, Coronas Boy faced older horses in an open 870-yard allowance race, kicking clear
for a 1 1/4 length win despite a wide trip. Although he is relatively inexperienced
around the hook, the strength of those two wins made Coronas Boy the second choice
in the wagering in the Getaway Stakes. With Esgar Ramirez in the irons, Coronas Boy again showed his affinity for longer distances by overcoming a poor start and a six-wide trip to win by one length in :45.129.
Coronas Boy earned $30,000 for his third win from eight starts and his first stakes win. Victor Diaz bred and owns the gelding, who is out of the unplaced Corona Cartel mare My First Corona. Corona Boy’s second dam, First Down Energy, is a full sister to Champion Tiny First Effort and Grade 1 winner Tiny First Down, and a half- sister to stakes winner Crash Thru Traffic and Grade 1
stakes-placed Tiny Dash Of Cash.. Finishing second in the Getaway Stakes
was Attillitis (Attila’s Storm-TB-Pippips Royal Chick), ridden by Kelsi Purcell for trainer Dwain Grissom. The filly is owned by Grissom Racing.
Lewis Dillree’s LD Kinky Biscuit (Jess Louisiana Blue-Amandas Special) and J and M Racing and Farm’s Hauling The Cash (Holland Ease-Take The Cash Willie) finished in a deadheat for third. Tony Guymon rode favored LD Kinky Biscuit for trainer Wes Giles, while Jorge Bourdieu was aboard Hauling The Cash for Roberto Sanchez.
Notaspec (Sweet First Down-Make Em Hot), Dancin Tres (Tres Seis-Cashanova Dancer), Scandalmonger (Teller Cartel-Lady Tenaya) and My Tricky Love (Future Trick- Smooth Slick Silk) completed the field.
