Dixie Downs Futurity
VIRTUAL MOVES
by Stacy Pigott
Fastest qualifier Virtual Moves returned to win the $26,340 Dixie Downs Futurity on April 24 at Dixie Downs in St. George, Utah.
Bred and owned by Don and Patricia Baker of Beaver, Utah, Virtal Moves made his first start in the trials to the Dixie Downs Futurity on April 7. The bay gelding proved much
the best that day, winning his trial by 2 1/2 lengths in the days’ top time of :15.528. He was so fast away from the
gates and so far in front of
the field, he was unbothered
by two horses that ducked in
or bolted to the inside rail at
different stages of the race.
Returning for the finals two weeks later, Virtual Moves loaded into post position seven under jockey Uriel Dominguez. Breaking cleanly, Virtual Moves chased Hawkin The Money from the gates. Virtual
Moves took control by the midway point of the 300-yard race and once again proved he was the class of the field, winning the Dixie Downs Futurity by 1 1/2 lengths while post- ing a time of :15.44, nearly a full length faster than his winning trial time. The $11,852 win- ner’s check increased his earnings to $12,133.
Virtual Moves is sired by Maknmoves, and it out of the winning Okey Dokey Dale mare
BF Outrageous Doll. He is her second starter and winner, and first stakes winner from only two registered foals.
Hawkin The
Money (Hawkinson- Babyigotchamoney) finished solidly in second, two lengths clear of Makn A Legacy in third. Hawkin The Money earned $4,471 for owners Ross and David Hinkins. Layne Sprouse conditions
the filly and gave a leg-up
to Rodrigo Aceves, who is a regular in the jockey’s room at Los Alamitos Race Course. Jesse Chavis picked up the mount on Makn
A Legacy (Maknmoves-Ms Legacy Lane), a gelding owned by Jim Nebeker and trained by Ron Moosman.
Rounding out the order of finish were Cir Perfect Corona (Southern Corona-Cir Perfect Style), DJD Special Chic (Maknmoves-DJD Shes Special), and Secret Inferno (No Secrets Here-Megachic). Buzzed On Coronas and Carters Secret Doll were scratched.
Three horses— Ivory Knight, Margaritas And Coronas, and RGR Jungle Rock—quali- fied to the Dixie Downs Futurity but were scratched prior to the finals after receiving positive drug tests from the April 7 trials. The trainers were fined $200 for each horse, and the also eligibles were entered in the finals.

AQRA President’s Open Spring Futurity
DASHAWAY EAGLE
by Tracy Gantz
Dashaway Eagle may have been making her racing debut in the trials and final for the AQRA President’s Open Spring Futurity, but
Turf Paradise fans had seen her family before. In 2010, Bad Act, sporting four California high-point titles, shipped over to Turf Paradise and won the track’s Distance Challenge. Two years later, his little half-sister added another stakes victory to the family tree.
While Bad Act excelled at longer distances, Dashaway Eagle showed immediate talent at shorter dashes. The Futurity trials and final were contested at 300 yards, and in her trial, Dashaway Eagle, ridden by Rodolfo Arvizu, won by 1 1/4 lengths, post- ing the second-fastest quali- fying time of :16.058.
In the final, with Arvizu again aboard, she broke
a step slowly, but quickly
overcame any disadvantage. With a ground- devouring stride, she passed three horses to her inside and began to draw off yet again. Tahma Hawk Chop closed from the outside to get within a neck, but he couldn’t catch the filly, who stopped the clock in :15.838.
Armando Castellanos trains Dashaway Eagle for owner Alejandro Uriel Martinez. Muller Racing LLC bred her in Texas from the
winning First Down Dash mare Oh Dashaway. She is the first stakes winner for her sire, One Famous Eagle.
Oh Dashaway has pro- duced five winners from 12 starters, with multiple foals still to come. She produced three foals in 2010 and three in 2011, all by either Finding Nemo or One Famous Eagle. Bad Act is her best to date, having also won the 2007 Bull Rastus Handicap and
2009 West/Southwest Distance Challenge. He placed in 10 other stakes and earned $267,665.
Tahma Hawk Chop (Swingin Jess-Tahma Hawk) finished second under Roberto Valero in the final after finishing third in his trial. Gilberto Hernandez trains the gelding for LEMA Racing Stables.
Omar Lorta bred, owns, and trains third- place YN Makario (Hez Fast As Cash-Its Fun Being Fickle). Porfirio Cano rode the gelding in the final and in his fifth-place trial effort.
Completing the field were Corona Righter (Righter-Pilsner), Better Then Ever (Separatist- Seronka), Zack Brown (Azoom-Parisina), Kool Baby (Separatist-Im Willie Kool), Check This Cowboy (Windshield Cowboy-Shakin Sugar), Valiant Little Jess (Valiant Hero-Jess Cranky), and Blues Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-My Blueberry Chick).
