  AQRA President’s Open Spring Derby
JESS PERFECT CORONA
by Tracy Gantz
Sometimes post position can be advanta- geous in avoiding trouble. Jess Perfect Corona found the rail just that in the April 27 AQRA President’s Open Spring Derby. When two incidents bottled up most of the field, she had clear sailing. Though Feature Dashnon caught her at the wire, the stewards disqualified the first-place finisher, elevating Jess Perfect Corona into first.
Jess Perfect Corona immediately jumped into
the lead of the 350-yard race and headed straight for the wire under jockey Alejandro Ortega. Feature Dashnon stumbled at the start from the outside post, veered out, and drifted in late. A few strides out of the gate, Tellem Im Gone from post four came out into First Why Not, who then banged into Personal Mission and had to take up.
Rodolfo Arvizu on First Why Not claimed foul against fourth-place finisher Tellem Im Gone and Porfirio Cano on YN Jamaikino claimed foul against Feature Dashnon. The stewards disqualified Feature Dashnon to seventh and Tellem Im Gone to ninth.
Bred in Arizona by Las Vegas Ranch, Jess Perfect Corona won the 2011 Margie Bryan ASOA Futurity. Monica Ortega trains her for
Feather Two Livestock. The filly’s dam, Jess Perfect Girl, finished third in the 2007 Yavapai Downs Futurity. Jess Perfect Corona is her first starter, while her second, two- year-old Jess Perfect Miracle, has started only once.
Ralph and Carolyn Fales’ homebred Bringin It On (FDD Dynasty-Already In Love), under Tony Guymon, finished third and was moved to second upon Feature
Dashnon’s disqualification. Trained by Matthew Fales, Bringin It On won the 2011 John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge.
Personal Mission (Special Leader- Tantalizing Eyes) finished fifth under David Reyes-Frisby, but was moved into third with the double disqualification. Winner of the 2012 Huntington Beach Handicap, the colt is owned by Guadalupe Gonzalez and Jose Beltran and trained by Gilberto Hernandez.
Completing the official order of finish were Micky Rush (Red Hot Rhythm-Ryans Rhythm), One Fabulous Choice (A Regal Choice-Fabulous Knockout), YN Jamaikino (Royal Cartel-Its Fun Being Fickle), Feature Dashnon (Feature Mr Jess-Dashnon), First Why Not (A Regal Choice-Red Hot Why Not), and Tellem Im Gone (Teller Cartel- Streakin Flair). Us Regard was scratched.

BLUES MAN WON
by Stacy Pigott
Multiple Champion Blues Girl Too is prov- ing herself as a broodmare thanks to her son, Blues Man Won’s, victory in the $26,000
Turf Paradise Jackpot on April 29.
A grey gelding sired by Ocean Runaway,
Blues Man Won had already earned black-type with a third-place finish in the AQRA Turf Paradise Derby last December. Returning as a 4-year-old, he broke his maiden on Jan. 6, won again on Jan. 12, and was
second on April 7 leading up to the Jackpot.
With regular rider Vince Guerra aboard, Blues Man Won broke second from the two hole, just a step behind Rythm For Me George on the rail. It was a two-horse race early on, with Auto Rotate and Easy Chiseled Stone coming up to challenge late. But at the wire, it was Blues Man Won in front by a half-length.
It was the third win in 14 starts for Blues Man Won, who has finished in the top three in his last six starts. The $15,314 winner’s check took his lifetime earnings to $32,693.
Blues Man Won is the first stakes winner for his dam, who produced three foals in each of her first two crops. She is also the dam of two unstarted 2-year-olds of 2012. Lucky Seven Ranch bred and owns Blues Man Won,
and campaigned Blues Girl Too when she was the 2006 AQHA Champion 2-Year- Old and 2-Year-Old Filly, and 2007 World Champion, Champion 3-Year-Old and Champion 3-Year-Old Filly.
Runner-up Auto Rotate (Dashair-Briefly Noted-TB) was claimed for $16,000 two starts back and was second in an allowance in his most recent effort on April 14. Ubaldo Guerrero trians the
5-year-old gelding for owner Juan Sepulveda. Hector Aldrete was in the saddle.
Erick Minjarez’s show finisher, Easy Chiseled Stone (SC Chiseled In Stone-Easy Hempen Chic), raced in the claiming ranks as a 2- and 3-year-old before a three-year absence from the track. The 7-year-old gelding returned to run second in the March 25 Hasta La Vista Stakes, but was disquali- fied to fourth, and win an allowance. Rodolfo Arvizu rode for trainer Armando Castellanos.
The remaining order was Rythm For Me George (Red Hot Rhythm-Georges Desert Queen), Fast Prize Country (Country Chicks Man-Fast First Prize), Valiant Feature (Feature
