                                Enrique Carrión Álvarez Classic
PANTERA DOWN DASH
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
Eight participants, all Mexican runners three years or older who have never won a race, disputed the classic in honor of breeder and
horseman Enrique Carrión Álvarez. The course was 350 yards and the purse assigned to the race was $253,000 pesos (approx. $13,171 U.S.).
The chestnut filly Pantera Down Dash received the majority preference at the betting window, closing with 1.75 odds for first place. During the moment of truth, she fulfilled
the betting projections easily, dominating the group and finishing 2 3/4-lengths in front of Chocolata Ze Breez, which closed in second.
At the start of the race, El Gran Gurú broke towards the right and repeatedly hit Quick
R Tudor, for which he was diqualified by the stewards and moved from third to sixth place.
Pantera Down Dash is a daughter of the stallion Aguerrido and out of La Pantera Gris by Mr Perote, a son of Beduino TB. The filly covered the distance in :17.44, which was good for an 83 speed index.
In her two previous seasons, she participated in futurities and derbies restricted to Mexican bred horses auctioned at the Hipódromo de
las Américas, qualifying for the finals of the Mexico and Garañones Futurities. She came in fourth in both finals. As a three year old, she was a finalist in the Desafío Crianza Mexicana Derby, where she was promoted to third place by
disqualification of Clasic Chic. This is her seventh victory in 16 starts, plus four seconds and a third place finish.
Bred by Alberto Bailleres and owned by Cuadra Chiconcuac, her usual train- ing is the responsibility of José Guadalupe García “Lupillo”, who is officially represented by trainer Luis Eduardo Flores Gómez. The rider who led
her to win her first classic is the experienced Alejandro Gómez Díaz.
The awarding of the filly and her team
in the winner’s circle was led by the lawyer Enrique Carrión Álvarez, long recognized in Mexico and the United States as a breeder and owner of racing Quarter Horses.
Previously they won this classic in
2017 with Lafishingonabugsmoon by Nofishinonafullmoon, and in 2018 with Chai Danny by Danny Cartel.
Chocolata Ze Breez (Ze Dancer-Call Me The Breez) finished second under the direc- tion of Martín Hernández Bautista for owner Cuadra Díaz de León and trainer Juan Miguel Cruz Galván.
Clasic Chic (Sambaso Dancer-Ziplock Chick) and José Ángel Ambrosio Medina
were third for owner Cuadra Avar and trainer José Ravel Baltazar Aguilar.
El Bar Cartel (Danny Cartel-Double Bar Dash),
R Quick (Trick On The Run-FF Quick), El Gran Gurú (Aguerrido-Mrs. Furia Race TB), R Shangai (Trick On The Run-Shanghai
Girl TB) and Mons Tango Glass (Teller Tango – First
