                                Chirina Glorys Classic
LITELY POLITICAL
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The 2019 version of the Chirina Glorys Classic called on only five runners of
three years or older to compete for a prize of $256,000 pesos (approx. $13,282 U.S.) at a distance of 350 yards. With the presence of the two best athletes currently at the Hipódromo de las Américas, there was maximum interest at the competition.
The talk was on the filly Marney Jo, owned by Rancho El Suspiro, and the mare Litely Political, from Cuadra San Judas Tadeo, both located in the State of Chiapas in the south
of the Mexican Republic. The latter was the favorite at the betting windows for first place. They took their positions and received the
departure flag, initiating the start of their route with cleanliness.
At the beginning, Kitty Kiernan took a slight advantage on the inner rail, but was soon displaced by Marney Jo, who momen- tarily assumed command, that is until Litely Political settled on the track and displayed her power and speed to the group while drifting sharply inward under the quiet command of Alejandro Gómez Díaz - without interfering with any of her rivals.
The rest of the distance only served to increase the difference with respect to the
rest of the field, and Litely Political crossed the finish line 1 3/4-lengths ahead of Marney Jo. The winning time was :17.23, posting an 89 speed index.
The daughter of
Apollitical Jess and out of
Strobe Lite by Stoli met the majority’s forecast and added to her record the seventh win out of 14 starts on the track, having also three arrivals in second and one In third. In 2018, she also won the Chirina Glorys Classic.
To date, Litely Political has accumulated
six classic victories, two of them obtained this season, which started by winning the Inaugural Classic. Her reward for this race was $143,700 pesos (approx. $7,455 U.S.), which means that her total account now exceeds two million pesos. She was raised in the United States by Matt Dunn and was saddled by trainer Víctor Jarillo Sánchez.
She is positioned early as a candidate to win, once again, American Adult Mare Champion for the 2019 season, a title with which she was distinguished with in 2018.
Marney Jo (Corona Cartel-Executive Looks) was second under José Ángel Ambrosio
Medina for owner Rancho El Suspiro and trainer Gonzalo Bastida Pacheco. The filly had a streak of three consecu- tive classic wins in the Felix Bañuelos Jiménez, AQHA Distaff Challenge and Velocidad Clasico, without
forgetting that in her debut she was awarded with the Maiden Stakes in 2018.
The sorrel Kitty Kiernan (FDD Dynasty- Fleeting Touch) and Israel Dominguez Morales were third for owner Cuadra El Cuartel and trainer José Luis Tavizón Barraza.
DM Mary Corona (Tinys First Corona- Mary La Jolla) was fourth and was followed by Lil Miss Sandra (Captain Courage-Lil Miss Party Doll).
