                                Easily A Possum Classic
REACHER 16
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The classic in honor of the formidable runner Easily A Possum was held on March 17 over a distance of 350 yards. The prize distributed was $429,400 pesos (approx. $22,082 U.S.).
This is the first stakes that makes up the Mexican Quarter Mile Triple Crown, along with the AMCCCCM Classic and the Mexican Derby. Nowurtalkin was the last Champion of this series in 2011.
The early favorite to win this race, by a large margin, was the colt DF Medford, team- ing with Oilpatch Chamisa V, closing with odds of 1.40.
However, at the time of action, the results moved in favor of the filly Reacher 16, who
was second in the betting window preferences. With Martin Hernandez Bautista aboard, Reacher 16 settled on the track safely and soon dominated the leaders - Shades Of Gray Magic and All On The Up, who initially led the group as they moved with great power next to the inner rail. At mid-distance, however, Reacher 16 already controlled the race and it was only a matter of maintaining her advantage over the rest, and she crossed the finish 1 1/4-lengths in front of the aforementioned colt DF Medford.
The winner covered the distance in :17.08 for a 94 speed index, showing consistency in
her performance. She has now obtained four victories from seven starts, including the Mexican Futurity under the guidance of José Ángel Ambrosio Median, who on this occasion was relieved from the saddle by Martín Hernández Bautista.
Raised in the United States by James E.
and Marilyn Helzer, the filly is a daughter
of the stallion Inseperable and out the mare Tinys Corona Queen by Corona Cartel. She is owned by Cuadra Victoria M. C. and trained by José Ravel Baltazar Aguilar, who was named Champion Trainer by Points last year.
For this success, she earned a prize of $214,700 pesos (approx. $11,041 US).
DF Medford (Apollitical Jess-Parkers Vespa) finished second under the direction of Alejandro Gómez Díaz for owner Cuadra San Judas Tadeo and trainer Víctor Jarillo Sánchez. In his previous outing he finished second in the National Day of the Charro Championship, but was promoted to first place by disqualifica- tion of the colt Chocazoom.
Carters Calyx (Carters Cartel-Confidential Run) and Mario Aberto López Marmolejo were
third for owner Cuadra Los Arrallanes and trainer Manuel Celedón Basurto.
Shades Of Grey Magic (Separatist-Jess Amy), All On The Up (Kiddy Up-Least
Of All), MS Corona Doll (Corona Cartel-Fast Prize Doll), Oilpatch Chamisa
V (Tempting Dash-Sixy Chamisa), First Kool Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-First Kool Money) and Shazam B (Freigttrain B-Sheza Lil Bituino) completed the order of finish. Moonflashing was scractched.
