Champion Zoomin For Spuds will get a chance to win a second Champion of Champions-G1 after collecting his third
consecutive berth to the prestigious Los Alamitos race. The 5-year-old gelding earned a spot with his victory in the $170,500 Vessels Maturity-G1 on July 8.
It was Zoomin For Spuds’ second attempt at the Vessels Maturity and his
first win in the race.
Ridden by Jesus Ayala, he broke out of the 7-gate on top, received every call, and held off favored BH Lisas Boy by a nose in :19.628 for 400 yards.
“Three years in a row. That’s pretty incredible,” said Monty Arrossa, who trains Zoomin For Spuds for owner/breeder Jim Walker. “We didn’t qualify Zoomin For Spuds to last year’s race

ron Hartley’s office is located about three miles from Burns Ranch. That gives Hartley an excuse to see some of the good-
looking babies raised on the ranch every year. In 2016, Hartley noticed a yearling son of
Favorite Cartel out of the mare Ruths Chris that he liked. When Burns Ranch took the colt, named Black Fryday, to the 2016 Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma, Hartley made sure he was there to bid.
Black Fryday scored in the $198,000 Governor’s Cup Derby-RG3 on California Breeders Champion Night
at Los Alamitos on July 28. Eddie Garcia rode Black Fryday to second in the El Primero Del Ano Derby and his Governor’s Cup trial.
“Eddie is a money rider,” said trainer John Cooper. “He’s won a lot of stakes races for me over the years.”

and trainer Yanet Rodriguez. Tarzanito won last year’s Sgt. Pepper Feature Handicap and finished 2nd in the Golden State Million Futurity-G1.
Katies Easy Moves (Maknmoves-Katie Lane Finder), Jess Hawk (One Sweet Jess- Merridoc Hawk), Branquino (No Secrets Here- FTW All Jazzed Up), Rite Regal (Favorite Cartel-A Regal Classic), Billionaire Boy (Carters Cartel-Fovee) and Flash N Bling (First Down Dash-Suzy Cartel) completed the order of finish. Seared (Kiddy Up-Escape The Fire) was bumped and did not finish.

At two in 2017, Black Fryday broke his maiden in his trial to the Golden State Million Futurity-G1, qualifying for the final in which he
finished in fifth place. Earlier this year, Black
Fryday also qualified for the El Primero Del Ano Derby-G3 and finished sec- ond in the finals.
In his July 28 trial for the Governor’s Cup Derby, Black Fryday ran second to fastest- qualifier Ditto Head.
