Dr. Edward Darryl Leslie Passes Away
Dr. Edward Darryl Leslie of Broken Bones Cattle Co. passed away on July
8. Leslie, 76, was born in Weeksbury, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Transylvania University in Kentucky, and of the University of Kentucky School of Medicine. He practiced as an orthopedic surgeon for 30 years. Leslie loved his fam- ily, practicing medicine, dogs, golf and horses. He was a top AQHA owner in 2014 and 2015, and raced the earners of nearly $550,000. Included among his top runners is multiple Grade 1 winner Gold Digging Ashley, a 2012 mare whose second dam is also the second dam of 2-time Champion Kiss My Hocks. Leslie is survived by his companion of 38 years Judy Wellman, two children, five grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.

Danny Mitchell Passes Away
Longtime jockey and trainer Danny Mitchell passed away July 15 at the age of
66 from complications of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). As a Quarter Horse jockey, Danny won 563 races at Los Alamitos and is currently ranked as the 31st all-time leading jockey for the California track. As a conditioner, perhaps his best trainee was Dicey Secret, dam of the 2006 All American Futurity-G1 winner No Secrets Here. Dicey Secret was a three-time derby winner herself, winning 12 of 21 starts. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Veronica, along with many other family members and friends.
Sam Barker Passes Away
Sam Barker of Utah passed away on July 22attheageof61.
Sam was a lawyer for over 25 years. He was once the middleweight Intermountain Golden Glove champion. Barker was also a rancher
who bred racehorses
such as Grade 1 winner Five Bar Molly, dam of Champion Five Bar Cartel, under the name The Five Barkers Inc. Barker is survived by many fam- ily members and friends.
