Inspyre, the third-fastest qualifier for the main event, covered the distance in :19.665 over a sloppy (sealed) track, earning a 96 speed index for trainer M. Heath Taylor.
The $195,048 winner’s share of the purse swelled his bankroll to $205,668 and his record now stands at 5-2-2-0. Inspyre, who finished second to Lethal Jet in his Sept. 17 trial, broke his maiden in his third try, winning by a neck in the All American Futurity trials at Ruidoso Downs on Aug. 20.
Sinuous, Inspyre’s dam, enjoyed a productive career on the racetrack. She won four times from twelve starts, placed in four others en route to lifetime earnings of $105,956 for Cox. She finished second in the 2010 Dash for Cash Derby-G2 at Lone Star Park and she was third in that year’s prestigious Heritage Place Derby-G1 where she held her own against winner Streakin Down and second-place finisher Rushago.
In addition to Inspyre, Sinuous is also
the dam of Whistle Stop Cafe. Her Grade 1 wins came in last year’s Rainbow Futurity-G1 and the All American Futurity-G1. Bred in Texas by Cox, Whistle Stop Cafe has amassed earnings of more than $2 million for owner Whitmire Ranch.
Dash For Cash Futurity runner-up Smoky Ice (Apollitical Blood-TF Dashin Ms Perry), the tenth-fastest qualifier, just missed for owner La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC and trainer Rolando Almanza. Jude and Regina Robicheaux bred the gray gelding in Louisiana. The $30,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale
graduate now boasts earnings of $93,059 and his record stands at 6-1-2-1.
Stakes winner Dashing Movement (A Dashing Valentine-Seis of Hearts) pressed the leader early and nearly held for owner Josefina Guzman and trainer Alonso Neri. Bred in Texas by Minnie De Leon, Dashing Movement is already a four-time winner and captured the G.C.F.A. July Firecracker Futurity in July.
Lucky Dice (One Sweet Jess-Fodice), Cali Chrome (Moonin The Eagle-The California Girl), Edward Ashley (One Fabulous Eagle- Ashleys Gold Digger), Tempted To Celebrate (Tempting Dash-Zoomin N Celebrating), Lethal Jet (Volcom-Lethal Delight), and Koalition (Apollitical Jess-Nellie Delaney) completed the order of finish.
