In securing the initial stakes victory of his career, Famous Chief stopped the timer in a lively :21.188, earning a lofty 105 speed index. The final clocking just missed Jody Pops Zoomer’s 2013 track record of :21.075.
With the win, Famous Chief improved his overall record to 12-5-1-2 and the $82,080 winner’s share of the lucrative purse lifted his bankroll to $151,349.
Famous Chief hinted at his ability as a juvenile in 2020, winning two of seven outings and placing in a pair of other contests. He broke his maiden wire-to-wire in this third lifetime start and held his own after overcoming trouble at the start in that year’s Dash for Cash Juvenile. He won his second race in the Texas Classic Futurity trials, his last out of 2020.
Bred in Texas by Clarence Scharbauer III, Famous Chief is out of the multiple stakes- placed Thoroughbred mare Rockin Regent, by Gold Regent. A winner in one of four lifetime starts, the chestnut mare finished second in both the 2004 Texas Stallion Stakes and the Texas Stallion Two-Year-Old Fillies Stakes, both at Lone Star Park. Rockin Regent was bred and campaigned by Scharbauer III.
Won Famous Dash (Giorgino-Lil Famous Dash) rallied strongly from the back of the pack to finish second under Ricardo Garza-Cruz. The graded stakes winner was denied a third straight victory but picked up $34,884 for the runner-up effort, boosting his bankroll to $121,335. The sorrel gelding is owned and was bred by Scarlett Hill Farm and is trained by Rolando Almanza.
Big Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Delightfully Tres), who shares the same connections as the winner, closed strongly late to finish third with Bryan Candanosa in the irons. The bay gelding was making just his second career start, having annexed his trial heat by a head in his career debut. Michael Partin bred the bay gelding in Texas.
Blame The Fed (Favorite Cartel-Eagle On the Fly), Sanidee (Dominyun-Sanibel), Da Devil Made Medoit (FDD Going Grand-Tres Seis Mischief), Diane To Be A Hero (Valiant Hero- Diane To Paint), Hes Innocent (Hes Relentless- End of Innocence), and AP A Special Takeoff (Favorite Cartel-Jet Takeoff) completed the order of finish. Bad Monkey was scratched.
