Cervantes and Favorite Honey were the best this time and they crossed the line a neck in front, stopping the timer at :17.614 and posting a career high 93 speed index.
The two-year-old gelding earned the first place check, which was worth $130,200. This takes his total bankroll to $176,770, and his race record stands at four wins out of six starts.
The PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity-G2
was not Favorite Honey’s first Graded stakes apperance. The gelding won his July 10 trial to the $305,000 Grade 1 Governor’s Cup Futurity wire-to-wire by 1-length to secure
his place in the finals as the fourth fastest qualifier. In the finals, he ran a solid third behind the winner, Seperate Interest daughter She Goes Up.
The gelding is conditioned by Monty Arrossa, who has trained Favorite Honey in all but his maiden start. Arrossa is building a nice record of 5-4(1)-0-3(1) from his five starts with the gelding.
Favorite Honey is owned by Five Livestock Company LLC and Steve Wright.
Silver Racing Farms LLC bred Favorite Honey out of Coronas Fast Honey. She has produced eight winners from 12 starters, including Fire Fast Honey, a two-year-old filly also trained by Arrossa who broke her maiden
winning this year’s $297,900 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity-G2 on May 16. Favorite Honey became the second stakes winner out of his dam and her top money earner.
Two-time winner Corona Yo (Corona Cartel- Harem Carver) broke on top and was able to hold on to bank the $52,700 second place check. The colt is owned by S and S Horses and trained by Roman Figueroa. Eduardo Nicasio was handling the reins.
Trial winner Precysion (Mr Jess Perry-Nellie Delaney) came into the finals with the seventh fastest time and stepped up his game in the
finals to pocket third place money for owner Cesar Nunez and trainer Valentin Zamudio. Ruben Lozano was in the irons.
