“No horse had won from the outside all night...at least not from that nine hole,” Ross stated. “The biggest factor was we had never run him in this kind of rain or mud, so this was a big test for him, and he passed it!”
One Handsome Man will be tested again
at Lone Star Park when he lines up for the Texas Classic Futurity-G1 trials on Oct. 20. He should be joined by stablemate Blaze Carver, Flying Hooves RC’s other stellar grey 2-year-old which finished third in the Rainbow Futurity-G1.
A $25,000 yearling bred by Robert and Helen Wood, One Handsome Man is the second starter from three foals of racing age for his dam, Helens First Choice. A winner on the track, Helens First Choice was fifth in the West Texas Futurity-G1 before producing her first foal, multiple winner Forbiden Ivory. One Handsome Man, by leading freshman sire One Famous Eagle, is her first stakes winner.
FDD Going Grand (FDD Dynasty-Cash Cartel) was placed second. Mercy Hinklin bred the colt and campaigns him as Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm LLC. Kenny Roberts trains FDD Going Grand, who was finished in the top three in six of seven starts. Danny Lavergne rode the colt in the Dash For Cash.
The August Heat (Corona Cartel-Jess Genuine) was placed third. Bobby Cox bred and owns the gelding, who is trained by John Buchanan and was ridden by Esgar Ramirez.
Dash For Cash Juvenile
OILWAGON
by Stacy Pigott
On a rainy night at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, Oilwagon didn’t let the weather or the antics of his peers faze him,
as he remained focused to win the $47,825 Dash For Cash Juvenile on Sept. 29.
Under jockey Cody Jensen, Oilwagon got off to a good start from post position three, trailing early leader SS Poker Face Dream, who flew to the lead from post position four. Midway through the 400-
yard race, SS Poker Face
Dream ducked out sharply,
appearing to shy from the
glare of the lights on the
sloppy, sealed track, and
unseated rider Carlos Castro.
Oilwagon remained true
to course, taking advan-
tage of the opportunity
to grab the lead. Holding
off a strong late challenge
from Sheaintcrynrealtears,
Oilwagon saw his lead

One Handsome Man crossed the wire second but was placed first in the Dash For Cash Futurity-G1.
dwindle from one length to a head at the wire. The second choice in the wagering, Oilwagon earned $14,729 for owner Wade Helton.
This was the third straight win for Oilwagon, whose only career loss came in his debut on March 18 at Remington Park, when he finished ninth. He returned to break his maiden on July 28 at Fair Meadows, followed by a Dash For Cash trial win on Sept. 15.
This is his first stakes win for trainer Alfredo Gomez.
Bred by Jovetta Meredith, Oilwagon is the first foal out of the stakes-placed mare SR Dash Thur Faith. She won one of seven starts during a short career that saw her qualify for the Oklahoma Futurity-G3 and run third in the Mt. Pleasant Meadows Derby.
In second was Sheaintcrynrealtears (Jet Cartel-Tear Drop Six). Tawn
and Alan Perkins own the filly, who was
second in the John Deere Retama Park Juvenile Challenge and fourth in the Old South Futurity. Jesse Yoakum trains Sheaintcrynrealtears, who was ridden by Jerry Yoakum.
Solid Rocky Top (Rock Solid Jess-Pamper Oh Free) was third for owners Tammy Johnson, Jack Manning and Kenneth Moseley. Mike Wakefield trains the gelding and gave the leg up to Russel Hadley.
The top three were followed by Macho Maggie (Simply Macho-Royal Miss Della), Classic Patriot (Game Patriot-Classic Guitar), Captain Debut (Captain Courage-Elegant Debut), and First Flyn Dash (First Down Dash-Fast Flyin Prize). SS Poker Face Dream (Primetime Dream-Precious Strawfly) did not finish. Flirtingwithamiracle and Tayte Me Down were both trainer scratches.
