Red Cell Lone Star Distance Challenge
ALL AbOuT LARRY
by Michael Compton
Six runners paraded to the post for the $34,830 Red Cell Lone Star Distance Challenge at Lone Star Park on Sept. 28, but All About Larry turned the 870-yard test into a one-horse race.
Away alertly under L.S. Martinez, All About Larry, the odds-on choice in the wager- ing, dueled for the early lead and then abruptly drew off from his competition. He crossed the wire with complete authority
nine lengths in front of the
runner-up Kite Flyer, stop-
ping the clock in a new track
record time of :44.206. The
winning time bested the pre-
vious track record of :44.247
recorded in 2005 by Friends
Rare Form. The impressive
win earned All About Larry a
speed index of 113.
Crushing opponents is nothing new to All About Larry. The 5-year-old gelding
earned a speed index of 106 in winning his prior start in the Master Salls Handicap
at Ruidoso Downs by 8 3/4 lengths. Bred
in Arizona by Las Vegas Ranch, All About Larry races in the colors of Diane Heath and is conditioned by John Stinebaugh.
With his latest victory, All About Larry improved his lifetime record to nine wins from 20 starts and boosted his bankroll to $98,934.
It was the third stakes win
for the son of Heza Motor Scooter. In addition to the Red Cell Lone Star Distance Challenge and the Master Salls, All About Larry also captured the Sunray Park Marathon Handicap. All of his stakes victories have come at the distance of 870 yards. His dam, Come Hell Or Hiwater, has also produced stakes winner A Splash Of Hell, an earner of $75,436. His second
dam is stakes-placed All Hell Is Loose, a sister to graded stakes winner Rush Fora First Down.
Kite Flyer, the second choice in the race, finished a game second while no match for the winner. Ridden by jockey Santos Carrizales, Kite Flyer (Royal Quick Dash-Cymbidiam) races for the Dark Horse Partnership and is trained by Ryan Basham.
Eyeontheline (Eye Yin You-Bobbie Lou-TB) and jockey Danny Lavergne chased three-wide around the turn and finished
third. Bred in Texas by William Reeder, Eyeontheline is owned by Sunset Racing Stable and trained by Kenny Roberts Sr.
Checking in behind the top three were Kudos For Quick Dash (Royal Quick Dash- Kudos For Sweets-TB), Keep On Wishing (Shazoom-Wicked Wish), and Icy Valentine (Mr Jess Perry-Icy Morn-TB).
