Hearings Held On Farias’ Six Class 1 Violations
In December, the California Horse Racing Board filed six complaints against trainer
Adan Farias, alleging violation of CHRB Rules 1843(a,b&d), 1859.5 and 1887(a). Farias was the trainer of record for six horses that tested positive for Zilpaterol, a Class 1 prohibited substance. All six of the horses tested positive in official urine samples, while two of the horses—Deep Creek Bobbie and Illegal Smile—also tested positive in official blood samples. The horses and races are:
• In A Separate Class, who finished first in the fourth race at Los Alamitos on Oct. 23, 2011 (claiming race);
• Azshecanfly, who finished second in the second race at Los Alamitos on Oct. 29, 2011 (Members Plus Stakes);
• Illegal Smile, who finished first in the eighth race at Los Alamitos on Oct. 29, 2011 (John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2);
• FDD Moon, who finished third in the eighth race at Los Alamitos on Oct. 29, 2011 (John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2);
• T Gold J, who finished first in the ninth race at Los Alamitos on Oct. 29, 2011 (Adequan Derby Challenge Championship-G1);
• Deep Creek Bobbie, who finished first in the 12th race at Los Alamitos on Oct. 29, 2011 (starter allowance).
Hearings were held on Jan. 9, and all six horses were disqualified, with all purse mon- ies ordered to be returned and redistributed. Zilpaterol is marketed by Intervet/Schering- Plough Animal Health under the brand name Zilmax, and is a feed supplement for beef cattle intended to improve live weight gain and increase the amount of muscle.
