DOLLAR BILL
by Tracy Gantz
Juan Diaz Jr. turned in an impressive performance in the Aug. 5 TQHA Sale Futurity-G1. The trainer qualified six to the race and finished one-two-three-four with Dollar Bill, Colleys Cartel, Hardtotempt, and Gotagogh. In doing so, Diaz won the richest race in history of Retama Park, the Selma, Texas track that opened in 1995.
Dollar Bill broke in fourth for jockey Jose Herbert and quickly vied for the lead. He battled with Hardtotempt and then outfinished Colleys Cartel by a neck, completing 350 yards in :17.812 for a 97 speed index.
Herbert had qualified Dollar Bill and Unseen NME, both sons of Kiss My Hocks, to the Futurity. Unseen Nme qualified the fastest in winning his trial, and Dollar Bill won his trial by 1 1/4 lengths in the second- fastest time. Unseen NME was breaking his maiden in his trial, which was his third start, while Dollar Bill had a better record: four wins, including the June 3 Sam Houston
