Party Politics doesn’t like breaking from the rail, but he overcame it to capture the Aug. 13 Golden State Derby-G2 at Los Alamitos.
Favored at 19-10 under jockey Jesus
Ayala and the fourth-fastest qualifier, Party Politics flew out of the gate on top. He lugged in toward the gap, but that didn’t stop his momentum. Even though others closed as the field approached the wire, Party Politics held them off to score wire-to-wire by a nose in :19.748 for 400 yards for a 91 speed index.
Juan Aleman trains Party Politics and also trained the sire, Champion Apollitical Jess, and the dam, Shanachee. Party Politics races for the Aleman family’s JGA Racing Stables Inc.
“It was a tough race tonight,” Aleman said. “Ayala said the horse was standing perfectly for all that time and was ready to go. Then the other horse reared up and that got him a little anxious. When the gates opened, he left.”
Ayala told Aleman that after the start, the jockey thought they would win. But then Party
