and opted to ride First Valiant Sign. Ivan Carnero took his place.
When the gate opened, Jess Good Candy broke true to form and veered inside hitting First Valiant Sign, but they bounced apart with Jess Good Candy hitting his stride. As they went down the track, he took charge, leaving First Valiant Sign. On the outside, One Fabulous Eagle was coming on to
finish second by a neck with TF Im That Guy coming in third. First Valiant Sign was fourth. The rest of the field found Sky Bo Dash fifth, Crooked Path sixth, Hatefulist seventh. Lethal Volcom was next but disqualified for forcing McClintock B to take up sharply moving that horse to eighth with Lethal Volcom getting ninth. Giving It All bucked losing his rider and did not finish.
Jess Good Candy, racing for the Carl Pevehouse Estate with Ivan Carnero in the saddle won in a time of :21.414 for the
440 yards earning the $1.5 million of the
$3 million dollar purse. His record for the year was four for four with earnings of $1,519,240. He was named the Champion Two Year Old and the Champion Two-Year-Old Colt.
The three-year-old campaign for Jess
Good Candy didn’t start until after recovery from ankle surgery. He began his sophomore campaign with a win in the Mr Master Bug Handicap. He moved to Ruidoso to win his trial for the Ruidoso Derby and then the Ruidoso Derby-G1, solidifying Jess Good Candy as a top racehorse. Butch Wise summed it up this way, “The statement was made. ‘How loud was the sonic boom?’ when he went by the grandstand. It broke the sound barrier. He was out there just having fun. He showed that tremendous reach that he has, and he just crushed the field.”
The racing career for Jess Good Candy came to an end after his All American Derby
trial where he won but the track got him and his time did not qualify. As the day went on, the times got better. He retired undefeated from eight starts with eight wins with earnings of $2,014,703.
Jess Good Candy ended his undefeated racing career to start his sire career on a
high note. He was the #1 Leading Freshman Sire of 2020. He sired foals that earned $1,273,623 with two stakes winners including, Dulce Sin Tacha, the 2020 Champion Two-Year-Old Colt and the
2021 Champion Three-Year-Old Colt. He followed his success in 2020 with being the 2021 #1 Leading Second Year Sire of Money Earners with earnings of $2,682,622. His foals from this year include Jess Savin Candy, the 2021 Champion Two Year Old and the Champion Two-Year-Old Gelding. He has sired the earners of $6,849,291 thus far in his career as a sire.
Each horse that wins the All American Futurity has a story. All kinds of ownership, breeders and trainers take part in the story. Each has a story that they can live in real time winning this great race. This time, the Carl Pevehouse family had to realize the All American Dream for Carl and his dedication to his racehorse program. The win by Jess Good Candy certainly put a highlight on the legacy of the man with the “Candy” horses and his pursuit of the All American Dream.

Imperial Eagle Wins The 2016 All American Futurity

Carl and Fredda Draper. Carl was the trainer of DM Shicago, winner of the 2004 All American Futurity with Fredda, a co-owner. Carl was the trainer of Heartswideopen, the winner of the 2007 All American Futurity. Fredda was the breeder of Imperial Eagle (One Famous Eagle-Jenuine Joy, Genuine Strawfly). Carl was skeptical of breeding to One Famous Eagle because of his high stud fee for
a young sire. But Fredda persisted and Imperial Eagle was born.
Imperial Eagle was put in the 2015 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale selling for $48,000 to Charles “Chuck” Robinson. Imperial Eagle raced in the name Charles E. Robinson and Christina D. Robinson. Robinson sent Imperial Eagle to Tony Sedillo, and they started his race career at Sunland Park in the West Texas Futurity
