Fly Baby Fly Wins The 2017 All American Futurity
One Famous Eagle, sire of Fly Baby Fly.
Higher Fire, dam of Fly Baby Fly, winning the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1.
Fly Baby Fly, the 2017 All American Futurity-G1 winner, was bred to win this great race. Her sire One Famous Eagle (Mr Jess Perry-One Famous Lady, Chicks Beduino) was already the sire of two All American Futurity winners in One Dashing Eagle (2012) and Imperial Eagle (2016). Her dam Higher Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Higher Math, Raise A Secret) was a major winner, winning two of Los Alamitos’ signature million-dollar races
in the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1 and the Golden State Million Futurity-G1, as well as a second in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1.
Another aspect of Fly Baby Fly credentials to win this great race was her breeder. She was bred by Julianna Hawn Holt of the Hawn Holt Cross Triangle Ranch. The Holt broodmare band has counted many fine mares, including the great Corona Chick. Hawn, who breeds her mares to have one foal a year, has set
a standard in bringing some of the best pedigrees to the yearling sales. Fly Baby Fly was one of them, selling for $180,000 to Judd Kearl in the 2016 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Kearl brought Bennie and Terri Jeter together with Dena Todd to form the Fly Baby Fly Partnership and the filly was off to the races.
Fly Baby Fly went to the track with a three-race agenda. She was entered in the Ruidoso Futurity-G1, the Rainbow
Futurity-G1 and the All American Futurity-G1. She started in trial #9 of the Ruidoso Futurity with a third place finish, but didn’t qualify. She then went to the Rainbow Futurity trials where she broke her maiden winning trial #7. She came back in the Rainbow Futurity-G1 with a fourth-place finish.
The big news up to this point in the Ruidoso meet was the rivalry between Eagle Jazz and Uptown Dynasty. They first met in the Ruidoso Futurity-G1, and it ended in a dead heat. They had tied for the win. They were off to the Rainbow Futurity-G1, and this time Eagle Jazz defeated Uptown Dynasty by 3/4-lengths. So, this set up the rubber match in the
All American Futurity-G1. It also left Eagle Jazz with the possibility of winning the $4 million All American Triple Crown Bonus for the horse that wins all three races.

Fly Baby Fly came into the finals with a time of :21.902, the slowest of the 10-qualifying times. Her jockey, Rodrigo Vallejo, opted to ride Hawkeye in the finals, and Jose Alvarez got to ride her in the finals.
It appeared that the field was set for the 2017 All American Futurity-G1. Then, it was announced that Heza Streakin Legacy
