Fastest qualifier Dark NME already has two stakes wins under her belt and is currently undefeated. In her first out on April 6, the bay filly won her trial to the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG1, qualifying with the third fastest time.
In the finals, she had a wire-to-wire victory by an impressive 2 1/2-lengths at the wire. She went to win her trial to the Ruidoso Futurity, but failed to qualify. In her next start in the Rainbow Futurity-G1 trials, she had another wire-to-wire victory by an even more impressive 3 1/4-lengths to qualify to the finals with the fastest
qualifying time. In the finals, she made yet another wire-to-wire win with a 3 1/2-lengths victory.
In her trial to the All American Futurity, Dark NME was bumped coming out of the gate and was sixth at the start, but she secured the lead in a couple strides and drew clear for a 2-length win. The filly was bred
by L Hendrix Horses LLC and is owned by TYKHE Racing LLC. Dark NME was a $65,000 purchase from the 2022 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Francisco Calderon was aboard for the trial victory and has ridden her in four of her six starts. Dark NME is trained by Santos Carrizales Jr.
The second fastest qualifier from day 1 of the trials, Devastating,
is still looking for that ellusive victory. The bay gelding made his first start in a 300-yard maiden event on May 6 at Los Alamitos, finishing third in a good effort. He then finished second in his trial to the Ed Burke Million Futurity but did not qualify to the Grade 1 finals. In his start prior to the All American Futurity trials, Devastating finished a distant sixth in his trial to the Rainbow Futurity and did not qualify to the Grade 1 finals.
In his trial to the All American Futurity, Devastating broke in third from 5-post. He raced in third the entirety of the event behind the leader. Ridden by jockey Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo, the gelding grabbed second at the wire by a nose to secure the second qualifying time. Devastating was bred by Steve Burns DVM in California and is owned by Jackpot Farm. Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo has ridden the gelding for trainer M. Heath Taylor in his last two starts. Taylor purchased the horse for $95,000 at the 2022 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
