Allens Cash wrote a new page in the his- tory books of Quarter Horse racing at the Hipodromo de las Americas in Mexico. It happened during the Feb. 19 trials and the March 4 finals of the Clásico de Velocidad, at the short distance of 250 yards.
A 7-year-old bay horse sired by Shazoom out
of the Thoroughbred mare Allens Cashmere, by Allen’s Prospect, Allens Cash on the first date won
his heat easily with a time of :12.72 seconds without effort. His winning time qualified for the finals, and improved by :07 the track and world record. Before the American Quarter Horse Association could make the new mark official, Allens Cash came back for
the finals. Two weeks later, he broke his own record on the same track with an amazing time of :12.58 seconds, earning a speed index of 118. This is the first time that a Quarter Horse has set a world record at the Hipodromo de las Americas. Coincidentally, it occurred at the same time as the commemoration of the 69th anniversary of the beginning of operations at the track, and with the birth of a filly that is the first foal of Allens Cash.
The previous world record of :12.790 stood for more than a decade and was set on Aug. 23, 2001, by the 8-year-old gelding Blushin Bugs (Blushing Bug- Docs Tresa, Padre Pop). He earned the world record at 250 yards at Sam Houston Race Park, in Houston, Texas, ridden by Alvin Brossette. (Note: At press
time, the American Quarter Horse Association had not yet made the world record designation official. Allens Cash’s time of :12.58 is officially a 250-yard track record at Hipodromo de las Americas, and could become an official world record once the proper documentation is submitted for approval by AQHA.)
At 7 years old, Allens Cash had only five races at Hipodromo de las Americas and was undefeated before the classic. The first race was Nov. 15, 2011, at 300 yards, when he easily broke his maiden; the second was an allowance race Dec. 10, 2011, at 350 yards. Previously he showed a great lightness of hoof, winning 17 out of 20 match races, the last of which was in October, 2010. After that, he started a new career as stallion in the 2011 breeding season. The owners still felt he had a chance to win at the Hipodromo de las Americas, and they tried him
in October, 2011. Although many of his followers wanted to see him in the Champion of Champions Handicap, he was not in shape for that kind of race.
Allens Cash was scheduled to race in the Clásico Inaugural, which was held Jan. 20, 2012, at 350 yards, a distance he never raced before. He had a disastrous start, but made an impressive sprint to catch a fast all alone leader, This Lil Contender, and get to the wire first by neck.
Allens Cash runs under the name of Cuadra Falcón and was saddled by the trainer Marco Antonio Luna Salcedo, who won the 2011 Kisses To Yawl
Allens Cash set a track record and unofficial world record of :12.58 for 250 yards in the Clásico de Velocidad.
