                  EHV-1 at Remington Park
On Nov. 15, Remington Park had a Thoroughbred test positive for EHV-1. Since then, the Oklahoma track has had several more horses test positive. As of the beginning of January, 2020, most horses were released from quarantine and nearly all of the horses were moved off the backside with the exception of a few that are still under quarantine. The hope is that those horses will test negative the week of Jan. 6 and be released from quarantine, leaving the backside empty. Remington Park has said they will deeply wash and sanitize every barn along with the front side horse areas. It
is also encouraged to do your own sanitizing before moving into the barn area. Currently, Quarter Horses will have the same move in date that was originally scheduled. However, if that should change, the public will be notified. Remington Park will be requiring horses entering the stable area to have a current health certificate issued within 30 days of arrival to the track showing that the horse has been vaccinated with an FDA approved modi- fied or live virus vaccine for EHV-1 not less than 14 days, and not more than 90 days prior to entry to the track’s backside. The veterinarian for the horse must provide the date of vaccination, brand, serial number and expiration date of the vaccine admin- istered. The health certificate must also show the issuing veterinarian physically examined the horse within 5 days of issuing the health certificate and there are no clinical signs of the virus, including a normal temperature, and verification by the owner/ trainer that the horse had not been exposed to a horse potentially having the EHV-1 virus.
