The race was dedicated to the memory of Quarter Horse jockey José Edgar Domínguez Huerta (known in the equestrian arena as
“El Jarras”), who lost his life on May 7 rid-
ing a match race in the San José Lanes in Mapastepec, State of Chiapas. In his honor,
the Mexican Association of Horse Breeders
and Quartermasters (AMCCCCM) and the Hipódromo de Las Americas organized a heart- felt homage with the presence of all the horse- men and family of Domínguez Muñoz, headed by Mrs. Julia Muñoz, widow of Domínguez, their children Hidali, Edgar, and Santiago Domínguez Muñoz, who also rewarded Ze Dancer Arandas.
Jose Edgar Domínguez, 39, was born and a resident of Chignahuapan, Puebla State, where he started riding in match races at an early age. At the Hipódromo de Las Americas he debuted on March 20, 2005, and made 1,477 rides until April 30, 2017, when he rode Danny Latina in the finale of the Mexico Derby where he finished in sixth place. His record set 206 winning races, 205 in second and 180 in third place.
