Stephens and Ought To Be First. Her winning daughter Bedawee is the dam of stakes winners Mr Eye Opener and Daring Difference. Bedawee’s daughter Miss
Eye Opener produced World Champion Special Leader.
Mr Eye Opener is a million-dollar sire with earnings of over $28 million. His
foals include Champion and All American Futurity winner Eyesa Special. Mr Eye Opener is a leading broodmare sire with his maternal grandget earning over $33 million. His leading money earner is Llano Teller, winner of the 2011 All American Derby-G1.
Moonist is a recent representative of the Ought To Go mare line that gives notice
of the power of this mare line. Moonist won four derbies at Los Alamitos in 2014, including the Golden State Derby-G1,
and came back to win five more major Los Alamitos stakes races in 2015 including
the Go Man Go Handicap-G1. In 2016, he started the year with a win in the Los Alamitos Winter Championship-G1 before colic took his life. Moonist earned the titles of 2014 Champion 3 Year Old and
Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding. He was also named the 2015 Champion Aged Horse and Champion Aged Gelding.
Moonist is out of Your First Moon, the 2001 Champion 2 Year Old and Champion 2-Year-Old Filly. Your First Moon won the 2001 Los Alamitos Million Futurity. She is now the dam of 10 ROM runners with five stakes winners. In addition to Moonist, she has produced Moonin The Eagle, Jess My Moon and Stray Cat.
Your First Moon is by First Down Dash by Dash For Cash. Your First Moon is out of Moon Arisen by Beduino TB. The dam of Moon Arisen is Goin For Cash by Dash For Cash. Goin For Cash is out of Ought To Go by Go Man Go, giving Goin For Cash
a breeding pattern of 4 X 2 to Go Man Go through Dash For Cash and Ought To Go. This gives us another example of inbreeding to Go Man Go in the tail female line. When we step back, we see that Your First Moon has a breeding pattern of 5 X 6 X 4 to Go Man Go through her sire and her dam.
The sire of Moonist is Separatist by Chicks Beduino. The dam of Separatist is
Seperate Ways, a daughter of Jet Together out of Go Together out of Go Harriett by Go Man Go. Moonist gives us an example of a horse that traces in his sire’s tail female line and his dam’s female line to Go Man Go.
When you look up the word “rogue,” you will find several definitions. The definitions of rogue that fit Go Man
Go are not obedient, and hence not controllable, and a playful mischievous individual or a scamp. As we have looked at the story of Go Man Go, here and in our November 2017 issue, we see how this definition fits him. With that in mind, we must be thankful that Go Man Go loved to run and that he overcame his “rogue” tag to become a World Champion on the track. He then entered the breeding pen to become an influential sire. And I think he accomplished all this because he did it “his way.”
Author’s Note: Are we done with Go Man Go? No! We still have more to tell, and we will look down the road to see where we can continue the story of the “Great Strawberry Roan.”
As this great Champion certainly did it his way on the track. He started his career as a rogue that chased his trainer out of his stall in the early stages of his training. Go Man Go overcame his rogue title, however, to become a 3-time World Champion with 27 wins from 47 starts. Some of his races were missteps due to doing it “his way.”
2-time Champion Higher Fire traces back to Go Man Go through the mares Sweet Game and Go Harriett. With two crosses to Dash For Cash, Higher Fire has a breeding pattern of 6 X 6 X 6 X 5 to Go Man Go.
