Juvenile Championship
ONE DANNY
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The four qualifying races for this important classic were held on Dec. 3 and had 35 runners from which 10 finalists returned to run the 400 yards in the Juvenile Championship that had a purse of $1,729,400 pesos ($90,488 US approx.).
BMS Country Willie, One Danny and Azoomin Jamie obtained the top fastest qualify- ing times. They were also the favorites of the fans in the betting windows. These three formed the trifecta that crossed the finish line, only in a differ- ent order: One Danny, Azoomin Jamie and BMS Country Willie.
Once the race began, Queens was hit twice by Teller Hesa Corona and Runaway For First, limit- ing her progress. Oblivious to the incident and very close to the inner rail, One Danny dashed under the command of Eddi Cuéllar. While on the other end, Azoomin Jamie did the same under Moisés González García.
One Danny led the way and crossed the fin- ish line 1 1/4-length in front. In third was BMS Country Willie, who in the trials, actually made the best time, assisted by Yair Daniel Báez Soto.
One Danny (by One Dashing Eagle and out of Corona Crystal by Corona Cartel) crossed the fin- ish line in :19.44 for a 97 speed index in winning his first classic. The colt was a finalist in The Prize Classic, John Deere Mexico
Juvenile Challenge and Alfredo
Castro Rea Classic.
One Danny was bred in the United States by La Presita LLC/LJM Ranch Inc. and is owned by Rancho El Suspiro. José Guadalupe García “Lupillo” is in charge of his sports preparation, and the colt was officially represented by trainer Oscar Romo García.
One Daddy won the
third trial heat to this race
in :19.62, beating Azoomin
Jamie. This victory is his fifth in nine starts and added $726,348 pesos ($37,988 US approx.) to his earnings.
After the race, SE Secret Perry was disqualified
from fourth to the eighth place for infractions committed at the start.
Azoomin Jamie (Ivory James-Azoomin With Jessie) was second under Moisés González García
for Cuadra San Lázaro de Arará and trainer Leonilo Cruz García.
BMS Country Willie (Apollitical Jess-BMS Moon Maid) was third under Yair Daniel Báez Soto for owner Cuadra Valeria and trainer Ramón Guerrero Trejo.
Teller Hesa Corona
(Teller Cartel–Eyes Tricky Too), Runaway For First (Dominyun–Tiny First Down), Jazzin Eagle (One Dashing Eagle–Corona LD), Queens (Corona Cartel–A Tiny Bit
More), SE Secret Perry (No Secrets Here–Miss Sweetie Perry), One Slick Fire (Walk Thru Fire– One Slick Jessie) & Jessies Fury (Furyofthewind – My Girl Jessie) completed the field.
