JESS PAINT YOUR LIPS
by Michael Compton
Michael A. Pohl’s homebred Jess Paint Your Lips is a winning machine. The 4-year- old filly ran her win streak to five with a score
in the $105,000 AQHA Boehringer Ingelheim Distaff Challenge Championships-G1 at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 14.
Ridden by regular rider Jorge Torres, Jess Paint Your Lips raced
in fourth position early in
the 400-yard event. With
a strong rally, she grabbed
command in the lane and hit
the finish line 3/4-length in
front of the field.
Sent off as the odds-on favorite of the nine-horse field, Jess Paint Your Lips stopped the timer over a sloppy (sealed) track in a brisk :19.469, earning a career best 101 speed index
while capturing the first graded stakes win of her impressive career.
In winning for the 7th time in 8 starts, including 3 stakes, Jess Paint Your Lips increased her earnings to $121,300 after depositing the $49,350 winner’s share. Jess Paint Your Lips hasn’t lost since May of 2016
when she finished 3rd in an allowance dash. Since then, she’s been unbeatable for Pohl and trainer Stacy Charette- Hill. She also won the 2017 Lone Star Distaff Challenge and last year’s Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge.
Bred in Oklahoma, Jess Paint Your Lips is the lone stakes winner out of two-time winner Paint Your Lips. She has produced 100% winners from five starters.
Multiple stakes winner Time For Win (Mr Jess Perry-Fine Wines) was second under James Flores, who piloted the five-year-old filly for Pete A. Scarmardo and trainer Charlton Hunt.
Stakes winner Honeymoon Candy (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Jess Send Candy) and Ricky Ramirez were third for Pohl & Charette-Hill.
JR Rock Star (Fantastic Corona Jr-One Famous Rock Star) finished in fourth and was followed by Gone Fast (Meter Me Lucky- Beautiful Ashlee), Bye Bye Birdy (Hawkinson- Sweet Bye And Bye), Blacks Cartel (Streakin Six Cartel-Brandi Whiz), Tic Tac Attack (Tac It Like A Man-Harney Girl) & Ablurrforsure (Im Alright Now-Kaweahs Blurr).

ZOOMIN RACER
by Dillon Hamilton
Zoomin Racer showed why he continues
to thrive in his long distance niche in the $105,000 AQHA Zoetis Distance Challenge Championship at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 14. The now experienced stakes winner stepped into the four-post and broke second. The four- year-old gelding found the lead by first call, where he led by 1/2-length
under Ricky Ramirez. The pair held this margin until the stretch, where they pulled away to finish 2 3/4-lengths ahead at the wire for Zoomin Racer’s second consecutive stakes victory.
The pair galloped the 870-yards of sloppy track with ease in :45.318, earning a 101 speed index.
Zoomin Racer nabbed the $51,450 winner’s share of
the purse for owner/trainer Fernando Carrete. The winnings brought his lifetime earnings
to a total of $101,524 and his race record to 15-5(2)-2-1. His previous stakes victory came in the Lone Star Park Distance Challenge
that qualified him to the Championship finals. Zoomin Racer also qualified to and was a
finalist in last year’s Ruidoso Derby Challenge.
The bay gelding has not missed finishing in-the- money since stretching out to 870-yards this year, winning five of his six starts including an allowance at The Downs at Albuquerque by 9 1/4-lengths and another allowance at the same track by 8 1/4-lengths.
Jerry Windham bred Zoomin Racer out of Racing Winner. The multiple stakes
winner has produced 100% earners from 10 starters, including multiple stakes winner Racing Streak and top earner Winners Cartel.
Stakes winner Trubador Dan (Pool-Jess Amy) finished in second place, 1 1/4-lengths in front of the show horse, under Alfredo Triana for owner Pat Hybarger and trainer Kasey Willis. Stakes winner Rare Ed (Dean Miracle-Miss Corona Jet) was third under Luis Gonzalez for Martin Marin and trainer Roddina Barrett. Followed by Juno Dat Timber (First Timber-Dashing Snowbound), Rock A Billy (Rock Solid Jess-Imaginiff), CJS Rocksolid (Rock Solid Jess-Sultry Miss) & Thespeedprofessor (Furyofthewind-Dreams for Lyndsie).
