The Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale ends with gains in gross sales, average and median prices. The Corona Cartel filly Carol On My Mind, consigned by 6666 Ranch, Agent, brings the highest bid of $520,000 from William E. Smith.

Approximately $5,000 is raised for the Canadian Cancer Society at the Circle the Course for Cancer and COPE event at Fort Erie Race Track.
September 26
The New Mexico Racing Commission suspends trainer Carl Draper for
300 days and fines him $6,000 for zilpaterol violations in four horses.
September 7
U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks delays the trial of nine defendants accused of conspiring to launder millions of dollars in profits of the Zetas drug cartel through the U.S. Quarter Horse racing industry from Oct. 22 until March 4, 2013.

The New Mexico Racing Commission issues a 10-year suspension and $10,000 fine to trainer John Bassett for two dermorphin violations.
October 1
Trainer Heath Reed is suspended for 21 years and fined $23,000 by New Mexico stewards after four horses in his care test positive for dermorphin. Trainer Carlos Sedillo also receives a 10-year suspension and $10,000 fine for two positive tests.
October 3
Remington Park stewards issue one- year suspensions and $2,500 fines— the maximum they could impose—to trainer Roberto Sanchez-Munoz
and his brother and assistant trainer Alejandro Sanchez-Munoz due to
10 different dermorphin violations in April and May. The stewards
also referred the cases to Oklahoma Racing Commission, recommending stiffer penalties.

Ruidoso Downs announces a
new policy for 2013 in which any positive test for a Class 1 or Class 2 drug will immediately result
in the trainer having his stalls revoked, his or her ability to enter horses suspended, and he or she being banned from the grounds.

Los Alamitos Race Course owner Dr. Ed Allred reiterates his tough stance on drug offenders at
his Southern California racetrack, promising to
ban horsemen found using illegal drugs or illegally administering legal drugs such as clenbuterol from the grounds at Los Alamitos.

The Heritage Place Yearling Sale ends with rises in average and median. The Corona Cartel colt Surging Market, consigned by Lazy E Ranch, Agent for Mackie Racing, tops the sale with a $185,000 bid from Jesus Alfredo Soto.

The Los Alamitos Equine Sale ends with slight decreases in average and median price from the record-breaking sale of 2011. The highest-seller, at $140,000, is a Mr Jess Perry daughter consigned by 6666 Ranch, Agent, and purchased by Abigail Kawananakoa.
      The Louisiana State Racing Commission ends two days of hearings with lengthy suspensions and heavy fines for eight trainers whose horses tested positive for the Class 1 drug dermorphin. The largest penalties—10 years and $20,000—went to trainers Alvin Smith Jr. and Darrel Soileau. Alonza Loya and Heath Taylor each receive a five-year suspension and $10,000 fine. Kyi Lormand, Lamont Keith Charles and Gonzalo Gonzalez each receive three years and $2,500. Anthony Aguilar receives two three-year suspensions and two $2,500 fines, to run concurrently.
