The Board of Directors of the Association of Racing Commissioners International (RCI) votes to direct its committees to develop a “One Strike, You’re Out” proposal for those licensees found to be responsible for putting substances in horses that endanger the horse. The proposal would extend to owners as well as trainers, and could include animal cruelty charges through law enforcement agencies. The RCI Regulatory Veterinarians Committee has been
tasked with
compiling a
list of drugs
that would
warrant
this type of
penalty.

The Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale ends with increases in average, median and gross sales. Natalie Montgomery DVM consigned the highest-seller, Im Jess Blue, who brought a final bid of $56,000 from Kimberly and Herman Hogue.

The TQHA Yearling Sale ends with an increase in gross receipts and a slight decrease in average, with Rick Crosby buying the highest-seller Viva Sin Tacha for $92,000 from Todd Antonuk, Agent for Bob and Jerry Gaston.

wins the $311,349 Speedhorse Futurity-G2 for owner Jesus Rodriguez- Najera, trainer Clinton Crawford and jockey Stormy Smith.

Arapahoe Park increases purses on all overnight races by $1,000 for the remaining four weeks of the meet. The increase comes
on the heels of a 4% increase in wagering handle, which marks the third straight year handle has increased at the Colorado track.

Los Alamitos Race Course announces an increase in overnight purses by $1,000 per race for 3-year-olds and upward Quarter Horse competing at 350 yards or more. In conjunction with the $1,000 increase for races at 350 yards or more, Los Alamitos has lowered its purses by $500 per race for 3-year-old and upward Quarter Horses racing at 300 yards or less.

Canterbury Park hosts the second annual Fillies Race
for Hope presented by MHC Companies, a day of horse racing and fundraising to benefit Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Foundation and Pay It Forward Fund. The 10-race card was exclusively for fillies and mares, including four stakes races.
AQHA releases the names of
five men and five horses to be inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. The inductees, to be honored at the 2013 AQHA Convention, are: Bill Brewer; Kenny Hart (pictured); Frank Merrill; the late Guy Ray Rutland; Greg Whalen; Fillinic; Freckles Playboy; Lady Bug’s Moon; Miss Olene; and Poco Tivio.

Lajollas Mr Big Stuff wins the second leg of the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown, the $109,988 Speedhorse Paint
& Appaloosa Futurity at Fair Meadows at Tulsa. Dee Keener trains the gelding for owner A. Jane Cullum. James Flores rode Lajollas Mr Big Stuff to the win.
