Juvenile Championship
EYE TELLER

The word “admirable” is one of the many adjectives that could be applied to the colored filly Eye Teller and her perfor- mance in the ninth running of the Quarter Horse Juvenile Championship on Nov. 4 at Hipodromo de Las Americas.
Such was her determination during her
race over the sandy surface at Hipodromo de Las Americas, which was nothing short of a mockery of the group that contained accredited sprinters such as Maggie
Moonpie and SF Banko
Aguerrido. The one who
came closest to Eye Teller was
the filly Wicked Fun, and she
was still four lengths back,
which gives an idea of Eye
Teller’s superiority, under the
guidance of Moses Molina.
The betting favorite was
the sorrel Stel Kool, of the
racing block Cuadra Tres
Marias, champion of the
match racing futurity of
Rubio, in the northern state
of Chihuahua, where he participated with the name of Achilles. He could not live up to his favored status in the Juvenile Championship, finishing in last place.
The Juvenile Championship was a one- sided race. The stride of Eye Teller, along
with its length and speed, has the quality of being soft, as if just brushing the sand with
her hooves. That makes a difference. By the middle point of the race, the filly was easily
in the hands of her rider, and her supporters started to celebrate the victory because her dominance was clear, and only deepened as she approached the finish line.
The favorites were not included in the placing. SF Banko Aguerrido, the only final- ist raised in Mexico and recent winner of the Select Auction Futurity, captured fourth place. SF Banko Aguerrido was grazed at the start by JA Gols Dundee, who did the same to Jewelsstrongesthope. SF Banko Aguerrido recovered and left them behind, but her struggle was unsuccessful.
Kool Stel broke slowly and badly. From there he marked the final position: tenth. Far from recovering, each step he seemed to lag more. It was not a good race for him as he did not adapt to the track. Good, but futile, were the efforts of his rider, Jose Angel Huerta.
Maggie Moonpie, winner of three futurities
in the current season and a paternal half-sis- ter to Teller Eye, and RKM Bad Moon Risin practically made a separate match race. But Maggie Moonpie could not handle the grey and dropped to seventh. That’s how random and unpredictable the sport is.
Eye Teller was raised in the United States by her owner, Mr. Anselmo Aguilar. She is a daughter of Teller Cartel out of Eyell Fool Ya. She is trained by Alfredo Martinez Mora, who
was present in the winner’s circle, accompanied by the young Gildardo Cardenas (the famous “Choco”), represent- ing the racing block Cuadra La Presita .
It was her third win in four starts, which paid off a purse of 741,750 pesos ($54,944 U.S.), the winner’s share of the total purse of 1,483,500 pesos ($109,889 U.S.). Her time
was :17.15 seconds for a speed index of 98.
The filly Wicked Fun (No Secrets Here-Ima Wicked Chick), seized
second place, ridden by Nicolas Otamendi and trained by Alberto Fernandez of racing block Cuadra Armadillo.
Conquests (FDD Dynasty-Itsmybag TB), took third place for the racing block Cuadra Bronco Rider. Arturo Sanchez rode and Eleazar Ruvalcaba trained Conquests.
Following the top three across the wire were SF Banko Aguerrido (SF Royal Bank-Aguerrida Candorosa), RKM Bad Moon Risin (Tres Seis-Grande Annee), JA Gols Dundee (Gol-JA Sofisticated Lady), Maggie Moonpie (Teller Cartel-Steel Magnolias), Boketeer (Boknaai- Royal Spring Fling), Jewelsstrongesthope (Strong Hope-Raspberry Jewel), and Stel Kool (Stel Corona-Little Kool Barbie).

Admirable! Es uno de los muchos califi-
cativos aplicables a la potranca colorada Eye Teller, por la carrera que hizo en la final del noveno Campeonato Juvenil Cuarto de Milla, realizada el 4 de noviembre de 2012.
Fue tal la solvencia con que se desplazó sobre la arenosa superficie del Hipódromo
de las Américas, que dejó poco menos que
en ridículo a un grupo en el que figuraban acreditadas velocistas como Maggie Moonpie y Sf Banko Aguerrido. Quien más se le acercó
fue la potranca Wicked Fun, distanciada por casi cuatro largos, lo cual da una idea de su superioridad, bajo la guía de Moisés Molina.
En los momios el gran favorito fue el potro alazán Stel Kool, de la Cuadra Tres Marías, campeón del Futurity parejero de Rubio, en el norteño Estado de Chihuahua, donde participó bajo el nombre del Aquiles. Preferencia que no pudo refrendar al finalizar en la última posición.
La carrera fue de un solo lado. El tranco de Eye Teller, además de su longitud y rapidez, tiene la cualidad de ser muy bajito, como si solo rozara la arena con los cascos. Eso hace la diferencia. Antes de agotar la media distancia, la potranca iba en las manos del jinete, sus partidarios ya fes- tejaban el triunfo porque era claro su dominio, el cual se acentuó a medida que se acercaba al poste de meta. Los favoritos no figuraron.
Sf Banko Aguerrido (única finalista criada en México y reciente ganadora del Futurity Subasta Selecta) capturó el cuarto puesto. Esta tordilla, recibió un rozón a la salida por parte del Ja Gols Dundee (3) y ella hizo lo propio sobre Jewelsstrongesthope (1), se recuperó y los dejó atrás, pero su lucha fue infructuosa.
Stel Kool (4) partió muy lento y mal. Desde ahí definió la posición final: la décima. Lejos
de recuperar, cada vez se rezagó más. Su carrera fue dispareja, no se adaptó a la pista. Bueno pero inútil el esfuerzo de su jinete, José Ángel Huerta.
Maggie Moonpie, ganadora de tres futuritys en la actual temporada y media hermana paterna de Eye Teller, se libró de los amagos de Rkm Bad Moon Risin, con quien prácticamente hizo una parejera aparte del grupo. No pudo con este tordillo y cayó al séptimo puesto. Así de azaroso e impredecible es este deporte.
Eye Teller fue criada en los Estados Unidos por su propietario, el señor Anselmo Aguilar. Es hija de Teller Cartel en la yegua Eye Fool Ya. Recibe el entrenamiento de Alfredo Martínez Mora, quien estuvo presente en el círculo de ganadores, acompañado por el joven Gildardo Cárdenas (el famoso “Choco”), en representación de Cuadra La Presita.
Fue el tercer triunfo en cuatro salidas, que le redituó ganancias de 741,750 pesos (54,944 US), parte principal del premio total que fue de 1’483,500 pesos (109,889 US). Su tiempo fue de 0:17.15 segundos para un SI de 98.
