   Tallahassee Stakes
BPS JUMPIN FRISCO
by Michael Compton
BPS Jumpin Frisco surprised horse players with a narrow victory in the Tallahassee Stakes at Hialeah Park on Dec. 20 that should have come as little sur-
prise. Despite his accomplishments, which included a third-place finish in the Heritage Place Derby-G2 and earnings of over $350,000, BPS Jumpin Frisco was sent off as the third choice in the race at 5-1.
Ridden by David Pinon, BPS Jumpin Frisco grabbed the lead at the break. He dueled with race favorite Sixes Quick Jolla, turning back his game challenger by a neck at the finish. A Bill Price homebred trained by Brian Muse, BPS Jumpin Frisco stopped the timer in :12.043. Now a five-time winner and two-time Grade 1 finalist, BPS Jumpin Frisco boasts career earnings of $365,916.
BPS Jumpin Frisco is out of the brilliant producer Frisco Fling, the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner and track record setter A Real Man, graded stakes winner A Cartel Fling, stakes-placed Thats The Man, who set two track records during his career, graded stakes- placed Jess The Man and stakes-placed BPS Frisco Chick. All told, her offspring have earned more than $1 million with 10 winners from 14 starters.
Sixes Quick Jolla entered the race off a bullet drill for trainer Judd Kearl. Owned by J.B. and Sherrie Morace, Sixes Quick Jolla (Streakin La Jolla-Sixes Quick) was piloted to second by Rodrigo Vallejo.
Third-place finisher Specialmanonamission ran evenly under Cesar Carrilo to secure the show spot. Specialmanonamission (Special Legend-RU Upity) races for owner-trainer Sacramento Chavez.
The Rebel Cartel (Southern Cartel-On A Beduino High), Speed Smith (Prime Talent-Speedy Empress), Check Merri Out (Check Him Out-Barrymerri), Conquistadorable B (Valiant Hero-She Travels), Rey Moro (Devon Lane TB-Babylovestoboogie) and PYC Fast Prize (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Fast First Prize) completed the order of finish. Dashing Coverage (Royal Quick Dash-Special Coverage) was scratched.
Signature Stakes
FREAKING
by Michael Compton
Freaking has a tendency to wander through the lane of his races. That detrimental habit cost him a victory in the Bienvenido De Nuevo Stakes at Hialeah
Park on Dec. 23 as well as placings in a pair of other races over the last two years. Despite lugging in through the lane in his most recent outing, Freaking successfully scored the win in Hialeah’s Signature Stakes, getting his nose down at the finish to prevail in the latest renewal of that 350-yard fixture on Jan. 6.
With Freddie Martinez in the irons, Freaking raced in second position early, just a head behind Mr Commando. Failing to run in a straight line once again, Freaking still managed to hit the wire a nose in front of a game Mr Commando in :17.833.
Bred by Ed Allred and owned/trained by Ricardo Martinez, Freaking captured the Signature and City of Hialeah Stakes during the 2011-2012 Hialeah meet.
Freaking is produced from the stakes-placed Chickasis. She is also the dam of graded stakes winners Hot Hitter, Hard Hitting, and Lassen County. All told, she has 23 starters, 18 winners and four stakes winners. Her progeny have earned more than $1.5 million.
Mr Commando (Feature Mr Jess-Unloved) fin- ished second for his third consecutive stakes placing. Ridden by Agustin Silva, Mr Commando is owned by Juan Cano and was saddled by Felix Barraza.
Mr Sippin Corona checked in a half-length behind the runner-up under Ray Simon. Mr Sippin Corona (Corona Cartel-Jesses Royal Dash) is owned and conditioned by Guillermo Valdivia.
Flying To The Dash (Fishers Dash-This Dreams Flying), Executive Prince (Executive Menace-Sticky N Picky), Iama PYC (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Iama Eye Opener), Lord Azoom (Azoom-Lady Tenaya), Cash For Wagon Boss ([PYC Paint Your Wagon-Taras Streaker), One Hot Mecanic (Corona Caliente-No Tools Required) and Dreamers Cartel (Corona Cartel- Dreams Can Fly) rounded out the order of finish.
Holiday Handicap
SECRETLY HOT
by Tracy Gantz
Bad racing luck kept Secretly Hot out of the Dec. 16 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1, but she ended 2012 by winning the Dec. 30 Holiday Handicap. In her Two Million futurity trial, Secretly Hot
received the worst of a crowding incident. Bumped from both sides, she could only finish seventh behind winner The August Heat, who went on to run second to Matabari in the final.
In the 350-yard Holiday, Secretly Hot broke on top with clear running room. Jockey Cruz Mendez kept her in front the entire way. Bolt Lightly closed from the outside, but Secretly Hot was able to hold her off, getting the nose bob on the wire to win in :17.546.
Jesse Godinez, an exercise rider at Los Alamitos before an accident ended his riding career, was winning his first stakes race at the track as a trainer. Godinez conditions Secretly Hot for Manuel Lorenzana, who acquired the filly in the fall. During the summer, Secretly Hot won the Governor’s Cup Futurity-G2.
Ed Allred bred Secretly Hot from Secret Reflection, a granddaughter of World Champion Charger Bar. Secret Reflection has produced nine winners from 16 starters, including 1999 Jazzing Hi Handicap winner On Reflection and stakes-placed Greek Gus, With Reflections, and Secret Look.
John Andreini and Vince Genco’s homebred Bolt Lightly (Check Him Out-Jess Racy Eyes) finished second for jockey Eduardo Nicasio and trainer Paul Jones. She was coming off a third in the Corona Chick Handicap. Francisco Rubio rode Dynasty Red (FDD Dynasty-Red High Heels) to third for Lin Melton, who trains the filly and owns her with Spackman Racing.
Completing the field were Bullet In The Gun (Stel Corona-Summertime Dash), Buy Buy (Stel Corona-Aquisitive), Secretly Famous (One Famous Eagle-Secret Separation), and Agent Of Move (Maknmoves-Shez De Agent).
