The Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Sale was held Aug. 17-18 at the Ruidoso Downs Sales Pavilion. Quarter Horse yearlings sold both Friday and Saturday, with Thoroughbreds kicking off the sale Friday night. Ruidoso also held their second annual Ruidoso Select Foal-In-Utero sale during Saturday’s session.
When factoring only Quarter Horse sales, yearlings saw increased numbers with preliminary gross sales nearing $2.7 million and the average sale price reaching $16,603 from 169 horses offered. A total of 145 head sold compared to 141 that sold in 2017.
The high seller at $84,000 was Hip #253, First Requirement (First Moonflash-Required Fire, Walk Thru Fire), a brown yearling filly consigned by Double LL Farms, Agent, and pur- chased by Javier Rodriguez. First Requirement is a half-sister to undefeated Jess Fire Chick, winner of this year’s Zia Futurity-RG1
and Mountain Top Futurity-RG3. First Requirement is by Champion sire/Champion broodmare sire First Moonflash and out of stakes winner Required Fire.
The second-highest seller at $75,000 was Hip #190, Big Big Love (Big Daddy Cartel- Desperate Love, Walk Thru Fire), a brown yearling colt consigned by Wood Ranch & Racing and purchased by Tommy Dinwiddie. Big Big Love is the first foal out of a 1/2-sister to stakes winner Tessta Rossa and three stakes placed runners, including The Revenant. Big Big Love’s 2nd dam is stakes winner Remember Me Rose.
