The Ruidoso Select Foal-In-Utero Sale kicked off its second year during the second session of the Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Sale on Aug. 18 at Ruidoso Downs.
Preliminary results showed that 18 of the 25 foals-in-utero offered grossed $493,400.
Hip #225 was the high-seller at $65,000. Consigned by Dr. Rick Beck, Joe Dee Brooks pur- chased the foal-in-utero by Champion/Champion sire/Champion broodmare sire Special Effort,
the only horse to win the Quarter Horse Triple Crown. The foal is out of Grade 1 winner Five Bar Molly, the dam of Champion Five Bar Cartel.
The second-highest selling foal-in-utero
at $50,000 was Hip #230. Consigned by Rafter W Stables and purchased by West Texas Racing Partnership, the Mr Jess Perry foal-in-utero is out of Grade 1 winner Hidden Dragon. The foal will be a half-sibling to Heza Wild Dragon and Zulu Dragon.
