RUNAWAY FOR FIRST

The Mexican Derby is the third and final race of the Mexican Quarter Horse Triple Crown, and it took place on July 29 over a distance of 400 yards. There were seven run- ners bred in the United States that competed for a prize of $291,600 pesos (approx. $15,658 US dollars).
Everything favored the colt Gulf Coast Streaker to win this race. However when the race started, he stood up and fell and was left behind the group and unable to return to the race. Meanwhile, the sorrel Runaway For First (#1) took the lead and was followed closely
by BMS Country Willie (#2), holding a close duel near the inner rail that was decided at the finish by a neck’s difference. Only Senator OE (#7) had a strong, driving finish, but was 1 1/4-lengths behind BMS Country Willie.
Rider José Ángel Ambrosio Medina took Runaway For First to his second win from nine outs in just :19.21 for an impressive 105 speed index. He won his maiden on Oct. 29, 2017.
Bred by Thomas Bradbury and Vaughn Cook, Runaway For First is by Dominyun and out of Tiny First Down by First Down Dash. The gelding is owned by Cuadra Cartas Blancas and trained by José Ravel Baltazar Aguilar.
For this triumph, he added $174,960 pesos (approx. $9,395 US) to his earnings account obtained on the track.
Thus, the races were closed for the Mexican Quarter Horse Triple Crown, with a gem for everyone: Azoomin Jamie (Easily A Possum Classic), Gulf Coast Streaker (AMCCCCM Classic, by disqualification of One Danny)
and now Runaway For First. The last Triple Crowned Champion was Nowurtalkin in 2011, a son of Heza Fast Dash and out Illusive Star TB, who made a formidable campaign that year and is now serving as a stallion.
The hard-working BMS Country Willie (Apollitical Jess-BMS Moon Maid) closed in second place under Alejandro Gómez Díaz. The colt is owned by Cuadra Valeria and trained by René Alan Rodríguez García.
In third place was Senator OE (Louisiana Senator-Overeasy Annie), who was ridden by Mario Alberto López Marmolejo. The colt is owned by Cuadra Garañones and trained by Hernán Misael Romo Anaya.
Followed by: Azoomin Jamie (Ivory James– Azoomin With Jessie), Teller Hesa Corona (Teller Cartel–Eyes Tricky Too), EC Invictus (Mighty Invictus–Taking Risk) and Gulf Coast Streaker (Rock Solid Jess–Ladys Streaker).

Todo apuntaba para que el potro Gulf Coast Streaker anotara este clásico en su importante récord de victorias. Sin embargo, al ordenarse
la partida se levantó de manos y enseguida cayó aparatosamente, quedando muy rezagado del grupo y sin oportunidad de volver a la carrera. Mientras, el alazán Runaway For First (1) se puso al frente del grupo seguido de cerca por BMS Country Willie (2), sosteniendo un cer- rado duelo cerca del riel interno que se decidió en la meta por diferencia de cuello, en el orden antes mencionado. Solamente Senator OE (7) aceleró el paso y cerró con fuerza pero quedó a 1 y 1⁄4 de largo de BMS Country Willie.
El jinete José Ángel Ambrosio Medina llevó a Runaway For First a obtener su segundo tri- unfo en 9 actuaciones en solo 19.21 segundos, para un impresionante SI de 105; su “maiden” la ganó el 29 de Octubre de 2017.
Criado por Bradbury Thomas / Cook Vaughn, es hijo del semental Dominyum en la yegua Tiny First Down, a su vez descendiente del inmortal First Down Dash. Es propiedad de la Cuadra Cartas Blancas y entrenado por José
Ravel Baltazar Aguilar. Por este triunfo agregó $174,960 pesos ($9,395 US aproxima-
damente) a su cuenta de beneficios económicos obtenidos en la pista.
Así se cerraron las contiendas por la triple corona mexicana Cuarto de Milla, con una gema para cada quien: Azoomin Jamie (Clásico Easily A Possum), Gulf Coast Streaker (Clásico AMCCCCM, por descalificación de One Danny) y ahora Runaway For First, según lo que aquí se reseña. El último Triple Coronado fue Nowurtalkin en 2011, un hijo de Heza Fast Dash en Boone’s Mill TB (Illusive Star TB), que hizo una formidable campaña ese año y que ahora está sirviendo como semental.
El esforzado BMS Country Willie (Apollitical Jess – BMS Moon Maid) cerró en segundo lugar, bajo la dirección de Alejandro Gómez Díaz. Es propiedad de la Cuadra Valeria y lo entrena René Alan Rodríguez García.
Para el tercer lugar finalizó Senator OE, hijo de Louisiana Senator en Overeasy Annie (por Holland Ease); lo condujo Mario Alberto López Marmolejo. Es propiedad de la Cuadra Garañones y lo entrena Hernán Misael Romo Anaya.
