APHA members share a love of the Paint Horse, and they are also alike in that no one APHA member is the same as an- other—they all have a different story to tell. One such member is Vickie Neumann of Little Elm, Texas. A member of the 2018 Racing Advisory Committee, Vickie can’t get enough of Paint Horses and Paint racing.
How long have you been involved in the racing industry in general and Paint racing specifically?
Vickie: I have been involved in Paint racing since 2003 when I purchased my first APHA racing stallion, Cherokee Image Too.
Tell me about some of your favorite Paint Horses?
Vickie: My favorite Paints include Cherokee Image Too, Judys Lineage, Easy Jet Too, Texas Hero, Texas Magnum Seven, Unchained Image, Unchained Image Too, Bull ... need I go on?
Tell me about your favorite Paint racing memory?
Vickie: For me, it would be the first time one of my horses ran and won a race. Of course, he was also one of my favorites: Unchained Image (speed index 88) out of Unchained (speed index 100) and by my stallion Cherokee Image Too.
His full sibling, Unchained Image Too, won in Tulsa on July 21, 2018, at 330 yards with a speed index of 94.
Why do you enjoy breeding Paint Horses?
Vickie: Breeding Paint Horses is exciting to me because you never know what kind of color or pattern is in the “Christmas Box.” I just love the various patterns and colors that have the added value of speed for racing, barrels and roping—it can’t get any better than that. And with the ge- netics of a homozygous tobiano to lend a hand to guaranteed color on all mares, it brings color and speed together for a unique blend of the best!
Why do you love Paint racing?
Vickie: I love the adrenaline rush when you see those Paints running down the track. It’s ex- hilarating and exciting—there’s nothing like it!
Why should others get involved in Paint racing?
Vickie: Paints are unique in their patterns, colors and racing abilities, which makes them the best for speed events. Nothing is as exciting as the racetrack with Paints racing on it! Once you’ve watched and been involved, you will never want to go back. It is exciting and breath- taking at the same time.
Vickie became involved in Paint racing when she purchased Cherokee Image Too in 2003.
Unchained Image Too, shown winning at Tulsa Fair Meadows on July 21, 2018, is a full sibling to Unchained Image, the horse with which Vickie won her first race.
