 KOFX-Radio Handicap Stakes-G3
KOOl AnGel
by Tracy Gantz
Sunland Park definitely agrees with Kool Angel, who increased her perfect record at the New Mexico track to three with a victory
in the KOFX-Radio Handicap Stakes-G3
on Jan. 28. The four-year-old filly closed out 2011 with wins in her trial and the final of the Sunland Park Winter Derby-G2, and she began 2012 with the KOFX.
That triple also coincides with Kool Angel moving to the New Mexico
division of trainer Paul Jones’
outfit, run by assistant Lisa
Saumell, and partnering with jockey Esgar Ramirez. That was not enough to gain favoritism for Kool Angel because she was meet-
ing 2011 Champion Aged Gelding Rylees Boy, an earner of $711,481.
Kool Angel came out of post four on top in the KOFX, though Personal
Glory on the rail and Rylees Boy from post eight were right with her. Kool Angel didn’t let the boys catch her, remaining in front throughout the 350 yards. Rylees Boy closed to within a neck, but Kool Angel had the win, stopping the clock in :17.297.
Kapp Investment Company LLC bred Kool Angel in Utah and campaigned her through- out her two-year-old season in 2010. She did
not win in four starts in Utah and one in Nevada for her breeder. Macias Performance Horses acquired her and began racing her in New Mexico at age three. She has since won five of eight races in that state.
A daughter of Sam Houston Derby-G2 winner First N Kool, Kool Angel is out of winner Angels Best Effort. Kool Angel is the mare’s first winner.
Gerardo Pena-Ochoa owns and trains Rylees Boy (Heza Motor Scooter-Pipistrelle), who was ridden by Joe Ruiz. The multiple stakes winner most recently finished third to World Champion Cold Cash 123 in the Championship at Sunland Park-G1.
Buildemhigh (Feature Mr Jess-Okeydokey Baby) finished third for jockey Vicente Grajeda. Edilberto Estrada owns the six-year- old, who is trained by Victor Rodriguez.
Completing the field were A Spring Snow (This Snow Is Royal-Lexines Legacy), Personal Glory (Walk Thru Fire-Suzy Cartel), JD Baccarat (Mr Jess Perry-Sizzling Lola), Fearles Fred (Fredricksburg-Precious Debutante), Dr Proctor (Feature Mr Jess-Daring Deception), and Corona For You (Corona For Me-My
First Twist). Checker and Zulu Dragon were scratched.

 Party Girl Stakes
lA MOS CHinGOnO
by John Moorehouse
It was smooth sailing for La Mos Chingono in her inaugural start of the 2012 season. The five-year-old mare made a clean run to victory in the $40,000 Party Girl Stakes on Feb. 4 at Louisiana Downs, picking up her fifth win in 13 outs.
Jockey John Hamilton never even had to break out the whip during La Mos Chingono’s trouble-free run in this stakes for four-year-old and older fillies and mares.
The heavy pre-race favorite
made a clean break from the
No. 4 gate and established
herself as one of the contend-
ers behind early leader She
Is A Fast Dash. While She Is
A Fast Dash faded a bit, La
Mos Chingono simply built
up speed over the course of
her trip, grabbing the advan-
tage and reaching the wire
first by a neck.
Oscar Rohne, La Mos
Chingono’s owner, collected a $24,000 pay- day that improved the mare’s total earnings to $186,490. She now holds two stakes wins, also finishing first in the 2010 version of the Who Dat Derby at the Fair Grounds.
This marked La Mos Chingono’s first trip to the winner’s circle since that run in the Who Dat Derby. Though she went winless in five outs in 2011, she did distinguish herself
in stakes company. La Mos Chingono finished second
in two graded stakes at Delta Downs—the Mothers Day and Flashy Hemp—and also mustered a third-place perfor- mance in the Audubon Stakes held last September at the Fair Grounds.
Kenneth Roberts Sr. prepped La Mos Chingono, who covered the 350 yards in :17.491 and registered a 102 speed index on a muddy track.
Robicheaux Ranch Inc. bred La Mos Chingono out of Rita Regent, a 2002 Gold Regent-TB mare owned by B&G Group Investments. Four of Rita Regent’s foals have made starts, but La Mos Chingono is the sole stakes winner in the brood.
She Is A Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Style N Grace) finished second, snapping her two- race winning streak. She’s owned and trained by Henry Padgett, and had jockey Danny Lavergne aboard. Bigmeanrunninmachine (Game Patriot-Wantsapearlnecklace) hit the board third. Karen Brown is the owner and Vann Haywood the trainer. Jockey Alfonso Lujan drew the riding assignment.
Dash For Alexis (Dashin Bye- Kdwantsafastone) and Wacky And Reckless (Game Patriot-Reckless Girl) completed the short field.
