105. The final clocking encroached on Kiss My Hocks’ :16.433 track record set in 2014.
“The owner called me and asked if I would come ride in the final in Houston,” said winning rider Ubaldo Luna. “I told him I would ask my agent (his wife, Kristen). Then I called him back and said, ‘Yes, I would come and ride.’”
Diaz, who captured the 2021 Sam Houston Futurity with BH Inx and the 2022 renewal with Bye Corona, was happy with the effort from his charge.
“She ran a lot better than people expected,” Diaz shared. “She needed her last race to do what she did tonight.
“I have great owners and we are grateful for their support,” Diaz added. “Everybody wanted to win, but we are fortunate to have such great horses. Ubaldo did a great job; just saw the finish line
and went for it. We will look at all the individual performances and decide what to do next.”
The $184,734 winner’s share of the purse increased Jess Flying Cowgirl’s coffers to $187,064. Bred in Texas by Lozano, Jess Flying Cowgirl is produced from the Dash Thru Traffic mare Traffic Juana.
“We knew it was a tough field; we wanted her to run well,” Lozano said. “I cannot express how proud we are and how grateful we are to the whole team.”
Runner-up Red Reddington (Kiss My Hocks-Ms Highmaitenance), with jockey Ali Rivera in the irons, just missed in a game effort, getting out nodded on the line. Owned by Reynaldo Munoz and trained by Alvin Francis Jr., Red Reddington was bred in Texas by Tyler and Naia Graham. The $82,000 graduate of the
2021 TQHA Yearling Sale, Red Reddington won his trial heat by three-quarters of a length and finished second prior to that in his career debut.

the show spot. A $32,000 acquisition from the TQHA Yearling Sale, Colleys Cartel was bred in Texas by Alan and Sharon Colley. The bay gelding
is a two-time winner and was a finalist in the Oklahoma Futurity-G2 where he finished sixth.
