One of the truly great crosses in the modern racing Quarter Horse came when the blood
of *Beduino TB and Dash For Cash came together in a pedigree. This was especially true when Dash For Cash’s son First Down Dash went to stand at his long-time home Vessels Stallion Farm alongside *Beduino.
Thus the pattern is set of how success breeds success, and we see many horses racing that carry the blood of these two stal- lions. The success saturates the industry with this good blood, and the industry starts look- ing for an outcross, which opens the door for successful racehorses like Mr Jess Perry, the 1994 AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old and AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old Colt. The cross of Mr Jess Perry on Dash
For Cash and *Beduino proves successful and our example is going to be One Sweet Jess, our Golden State Million Futurity-G1 winner from above. But the industry is still saturated with the great Dash For Cash and *Beduino blood, so we see a lot of linebreed- ing to this cross. Linebreeding is a method of inbreeding that allows us to keep a high level of the desired genes in our horses without as great a risk of exposing undesirable genes if they are present.
This leads us to the mating of One Famous Eagle and One Sweet Dash. The mating of One Famous Eagle and One Sweet Dash gives us an example of the breeding theory “return the best blood of the sire’s dam to the sire to produce a foal.” This means that the breeder breeds a mare or mares to his stallion that carry the best blood of that sire’s dam to produce the foal.
What does this do for our pedigree? This is a form of linebreeding to a common ancestor
or ancestors. As you will recall our goal with linebreeding is to keep a high relationship
to one special individual or, in this case, we want to keep a high relationship to a good nick (the Dash For Cash nick with *Beduino.) This mating has a breeding pattern of 4x3 to *Beduino and a 3x4 breeding pattern to Dash For Cash. This is also linebreeding to Dash For Cash and *Beduino with an outcross to Mr Jess Perry on the topside of the pedigree.
This breeding pattern also gives us the opportunity to sexually balance the blood- lines we are linebreeding to. We have come to know that there are genes linked to the sexual chromosomes and this allows us to move those sex-linked genes on to the next generation by using horses that represent both sexes of the common ancestor(s). In this case we are linebreeding to Dash For Cash through a son and daughter and linebreeding to *Beduino through a son and daughter.
This also increases the influence of the sire’s mother on the foal produced. We are linebreeding to a common ancestor through the sire’s dam and the mare he is being bred to. This increases the genetic influence of the sire’s dam on the production of the foal by duplicating her ancestors.
Have we seen this breeding pattern before? How about these examples: Cold Cash 123, 2011 AQHA Racing World Champion; Freaky, 2009 AQHA Racing World Champion; and Stolis Winner, 2008 AQHA Racing World Champion. When
we add One Dashing Eagle to the World Champion roster we see that four of the last five World Champions have had a form of this breeding pattern. If you have time, look
at the other top racing foals of One Famous Eagle and you will find more of this pattern in various forms.
At the end of 2012, the Allred Brothers were the #9 leading breeders of racing American Quarter Horses with $10,467,320 in earnings. They are the #2 leading breeders of money earners for 2012 with $2,475,291. It is this record as breeders that has put the Allred Brothers in the American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame; the Arizona Quarter Racing Association Hall of Fame and the Ruidoso Racing Hall of Fame.
So now when you look back over the Allred breeding program you will see
where the motto “An Arizona Tradition of Excellence” comes from and how our new AQHA World Champion One Dashing Eagle came from that same tradition of excellence. The next adventure for this great stallion is the breeding shed and passing his tradition of excellence on to his offspring.
