to the delight of the entire team at Cuadra El Agostadero. The stopwatch stopped at :15.20 for a speed index of 88.
This is the first stakes won by Cuadra El Agostadero, which is based in Yautepec, State of Morelos. They were well represented by owner David Elías Carapia, family, friends
and team. Adriana Gómez Barnola, Manager of the Mexican Association of Quarter Horse Breeders and Horsemen, and Mauricio Rodrigo Ayala Rosique, President of the Mexican Committee of Arbitration and Surveillance of Horse and Greyhound Racing AC, presented the corresponding trophies.
La Corona Eagle is from the first crop of the stallion Mr Eagle Master (by One Famous Eagle). She is the product of his cross with
the mare La Corona Six (by Miami Groovin Cartel). Both sire and dam are owned by
Mr. Abelardo Gallegos, whose Rancho Los Potrillos, located in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, is one of the most important Quarter Horse breeders in Mexico.
The current Mexico Derby winner was consigned to the Select Yearling Auction in October 2021, where her sale price attainted $210,000 pesos (approximately $10,083 US), and she was purchased by Cuadra El
Agostadero. She made her debut on April 16, 2022, in the Mexico Futurity trials when she came in third place with a time that did not allow her to qualify for the final or the consolation of the futurity (28th place in the general time table). For this reason, she was entered in a Special Weight race called “First Prize of the XII Mexico Futurity “ where she finished in second place.
Later she qualified for the final of the Garanones Futurity, in which she finished in eighth place. She broke her maiden the following Aug. 14 at 300 yards, returning on Oct. 16 to
an allowance where she finished in third place. She began the 2023 season by participating in the Mexico Derby trials, where she won her
heat by 1 1/4-lengths in a time of :15.144, just one thousandth of a second behind the fastest qualifier RG Golden Eagle. As of today, La Corona Eagle has a record of 3-2-2 in 8 starts and earnings of more than $764,000 pesos.
David Elías Carapia said that when he saw the filly at the auction, he did not hesitate to buy her. “Her conformation, size, genetics and breeding were the decisive factors in bringing her to my stable,” he said.
“I thank God that she obtained a victory of this caliber at the Hipódromo de las Américas,
to the entire team that makes up the Cuadra El Agostadero, to Juan Carlos Andrade, who was responsible for officially saddling her, to her regular trainer Juan Antonio Alcalá Lozano, and to my family for their support to make this possible. But above all to the main character: La Corona Eagle, a filly with a lot of class and heart, as well as her jockey Ángel Santillán Estrada who directed her in an extraordinary way both in the trials and in the Derby finals. Dreaming costs nothing, and today that dream is a reality,” he concluded.
The gray colt Blue Krash (Krash Cartel– Santa Agurrida) finished in second place under the guidance of Osvaldo Cervantes. He belongs to the Cuadra Par de Reyes and was saddled by Hugo Estrada López. Like the winner, he comes from the breeding of Mr. Abelardo Gallegos.
The chestnut gelding RG Golden Eagle (Swingin Corona–RG Malefika Cartel) placed third led by Cruz Antonio Monterrosas.
He belongs to Rancho Las Gaviotas, was saddled by Rafael Gandiaga Hernández and comes from the San Sebastián stable. His qualification with the best time is remarkable, participating in a competitive group from which 5 finalists came out. However, in the
La Corona Eagle ’s winning connections gather in the winner’s circle for the awards.
