Wicked Affair’s winning connections include breeders/owners Pete & Evelyn Parrella of Legacy Ranch Inc., jockey Jesus Ayala & trainer Terry Knight.
circles Legacy Ranch is well known for racing Griswold, the Champion Distance Horse of 1991, 1992 and 1993. They are also the owners of 1990 Champion Three-Year-Old Gelding and 1991 Champion Aged Gelding Apprehend, as well as the breeders/owners of 2010 Champion Two-Year-Old Filly Flying Fig.
Legacy Ranch previously won the Kindergarten Futurity in 1993 with their homebred gelding Daily Triple.
Today, Legacy Ranch stands three Thoroughbred stallions while producing top- quality Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred race- horses. Pete also serves as chairperson of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association.
“This is the best thing that could have hap- pened for Terry and the people at the ranch— all the people behind the scenes that make this happen,” said Pete.
“Terry, the gallop boys, everybody behind the scenes are so important,” he said.
Wicked Affair’s effort came as no surprise to her connections, as Knight had always con- sidered her a special talent.
“When we started breaking her, I just loved everything about her,” Knight said. “We started training her a little more, and she just got better and better. She just showed us a lot right from the start. She’s very smart and very athletic with a huge stride.”
Legacy bred Wicked Affair out of 3-time winner Burr Cold. The mare has produced 100% winners/ROM from four starters, including stakes placed Carver Cold. Wicked Affair is the first stakes winner in the brood.
“We have Burr Cold at the ranch and she’s a nice mare,” said Pete. “She’s a hard-knocking mare. You never know in this business where it’s going to come from. The racing gods blessed us tonight.”
Striver (Foose-Motherless), trial winner and the second-fastest qualifier, finished second
in the finals under jockey Cesar Franco. Scott Willoughby trains the filly for owner Juan Carlos Chavez.
Ms Ko (Corona Cartel-Whatta Knockout) debuted by winning her Kindergarten Futurity trial, but she finished third in the final under Jonathan Roman for owner Norma Cano and trainer Ricardo Guillen.
SC Coronada (Coronado Cartel-Spit Curl Diva), finished fourth and was followed by SC Money Maker (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Spit Curl Diva), Tac Me Up (Kiddy Up-Tacatrina), Cole Man 47 (Stel Corona-GM Silver Dreams) and Pack Light (One Famous Eagle-Back In The Pack), Fast Amanda Rose (Fast Prize Cartel-Eyesontheprice), and Delayed Steal (Stel Corona-Hot To Hit), who was disqualified from ninth for lugging in to finished tenth.
Wicked Affair & Jesus Ayala return after their victory.
