Delta 550 Stakes
SOUTHERN TEMPTATION

Southern Temptation, campaigned by P & J Racing Ltd., outran his 9-1 odds to win the $30,550 Delta 550 Stakes at Delta Downs on May 11. Ridden by Francisco Calderon for trainer Larry Kopycinski, Southern Temptation covered 550 yards in :26.893, and his winning margin was a 1/2-length from the favorite Gone Cartel.
The sorrel gelding earned a lifetime-best 103 speed index and the $15,000 winner’s share of the purse.
Southern Temptation was coming off of a neck victory as the even-money favorite in the 550-yard $20,000 Harris County Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on March 31.
Southern Temptation has now won five of 24 outs and has banked $109,096. Beside his two stakes wins, the gelding also finished fifth in the 2016 Sunland Championship Challenge-G2.
The gelding was bred by Karen Cummings and
is the first stakes winner out of unraced Passem Up Perry. The mare has produced 100% winners from five starters, including SF Hot Pass, who was a finalist in last year’s West Texas Maturity-G2 at Sunland Park.
Gone Cartel (Coronas Leaving You-Ms Big Dashin Now) was ridden by Damian Martinez for owner Tommy E. Rhodes. Vann Haywood prepped the gelding.
LDN Jessasaltydog (Im Dalaw-Jessa Blue Crystal) ran third for owner Juan A. Carrillo Sr. Everardo Rodriguez rode the gelding for trainer Juan Carrillo Jr.
Super Sonic Patriot (Jet Black Patriot-Totally Selfish TB), Sixes Flash (Streakin Sixes-Viborita), Buds World (Worldly Man-Gold Form), No Politics Here (Jess Louisiana Blue-In His Dreams), Let Em Fly (Mighty Invictus-Amight Classy), Whosgonegirl (One Sweet Jess-Whosleaving Corona) and Agoutis Snowplow (Agouti-Elainas Snowplow) completed the order of finish.

ZENERGETIC

Making her first start on the track racing surface at Delta Downs, Zenergetic scored her second stakes victory in the $28,000 Mother’s Day Stakes
on May 12.
Zenergetic broke from the 5-post and within the
first few strides, the victory was clear. Under Luis Vivanco, Zenergetic crossed the line 1-length in front of the other eight runners to stop the clock in a swift :17.375 for the 350 yards.
The mare earned a 98 speed index and first place money of $15,000 for owner Zenergetic Group and trainer Trey Ellis, boosting her total lifetime earn- ings to $72,528.
Her other stakes win came from the 2017 Selma Stakes at Retama Park. Most recently, she finished second to rival Marfilous in the Miss Sam Houston Stakes on April 14.
Bobby D. Cox bred Zenergetic out of multiple winner Zenergy, who was a finalist in the 2011 Dash For Cash Futurity-G1 at Lone Star Park. The mare has produced 100% winners/ROM from four start- ers, including Mexico stakes winner Enthusiastique. 2017 Texas Hi-Point Aged Mare Zenergetic is her top money earner.
Marfilous (Ivory James-Verrsace) and rider Damian Martinez rallied to finish second for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayer and trainer Josue Ponce. Marfilous was coming off a victory in the Miss Sam Houston Stakes. Eyesa Game (Game Patriot-Eyesa Beauty 123) and Everardo Rodriguez finished third for owner Touchet Farms LLC and trainer Lanny Keith.
RF A Faster Chick (Game Patriot-Fast Chicks), Jess Toastem (Jess Cuervo-Toastem Honi), Cajun Diva (Jet Black Patriot-Lajollas Leadinglady), VFGO Max Go (Jet Black Patriot-Ought To Go Shine), Okey Dokey Diamond (Okey Dokey Dale-Diamond Of Deception) and Shes A Tourist (Ethics Aside- Deluxcious) completed the order of finish.
Virgil Bond Stakes
JW WHO DAT

Winning stakes races quickly is becoming a habit for JW Who Dat. The veteran six-year- old gelding logged his third stakes victory of the year, taking first place in the $36,100 Virgil Bond Stakes at Delta Downs on June 1.
Trained by Eric Palacio, JW Who Dat and jockey Antonio Alberto broke on top from the 4-post, led by a full length at the first call and stayed ahead by daylight at every subsequent juncture, pulling ahead to win wire-to-wire by 1 3/4-lengths.
They completed the 870 yards in :46.094, post- ing a 94 speed index.
Owned by Fernando Ramirez, JW Who Dat reached the winner’s circle for the seventh time in 27 career starts.
The $24,000 first-place share of the purse pushed the gelding’s total bankroll to $91,392.
Winless in stakes company through the end of 2017, JW Who Dat has also triumphed in the 2018 Marathon and Magnolia Stakes at Louisiana Downs, with those three victories representing more than half of his career earnings.
JW Owens bred JW Who Dat out of winner EW Comment. She has produced 100% money earners from five winners. JW Who Dat is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Dark Bark (Oak Tree Special-Trio Gal TB) fin- ished second under Noe Castaneda for owner Onel Marquez and trainer Eduardo Morales.
Rakin In The Jax (Rakin In The Cash-Alcohol And Ambiance) came in third under Devin Magnon for owner Angela Dowden and trainer Jason Magnon.
Jes A Spitfire (Walk Thru Fire-Jess Delightful), Im Mighty Fast (Mighty Corona-Sheza Fast Doll), Jack Ketel (Ketel Won-Sheza Moon Bar Baby), Absolute Shot (Panther Mountain-Toast To Fortune) and God I Am Handsome (Time For A God-Room To Bloom TB) completed the order of finish.
