Governor’s Cup Marathon

Jack Ketel obtained black type status in the $25,000 Governor’s Cup Marathon at Sam Houston. The 6-year-old gelding broke through and joined the ranks of stakes winners in the event on May 12.
Ridden by Eliazar Vera, Jack Ketel broke on top from the 1-post and raced in third position early, well-positioned behind pacesetter Tars Tarkus in the 870-yard marathon.
Jack Ketel grabbed the lead with authority at the head of the lane and drew clear late to win going away by an impressive 4-lengths.
He stopped the timer in :45.856, earning a career-high 96 speed index.
In notching his first stakes victory, Jack Ketel improved his career record to 16-6-1-2 and the $15,000 winner’s share of the purse boosted his bankroll to $39,289 for owner Diamond L Racing and trainer Arnold Lewis.
Joe and Elaine McAnally bred Jack Ketel out
of lightly raced Sheza Moon Bar Baby. She has produced 100% money earners from seven starters, including top money earner Dashers Midnight, winner of the Universal City Handicap and the Sam Houston Distance Challenge (twice). Jack Ketel becomes her second stakes winner.
Jockey Francisco Calderon guided early leader Tars Tarkus (Tac It Like A Man-Sixy De Cash) to a second place finish for owners Jonathan Brandy and Rick Cline and trainer James Padget II.
Fire On The Fly (Jet Cartel-Shades Of Pink TB) saved ground early under Jerry Yoakum and picked up third for owner/trainer Tommy Bullard.
Streakin Tenaya (Desirio-Streakin Delacreme), Jess Killistos (Mr Jess Perfect-Killistos Classics TB) and Shake Rattle N Soar (Royal Shake Em-Where Eagles Soar) completed the order of finish. Love Ta Zoom was scratched.
Sam Houston Stakes
THECARTELOFMIRACLE

Sam Houston Race Park hosted a Star Wars Celebration on May 4, and the “force” was with Thecartelofmiracle for his second stakes win in the $20,000 Sam Houston Stakes.
Making his second start of 2018, he improved over his effort on April 13 when he ran second in the trials to the $191,900 Sam Houston Derby.
Favored at 7-10 in this race, Thecartelofmiracle blasted out of the 5-post in front under jockey Manuel Gutierrez. The gelding led throughout the 350 yards to win by 1-length in :17.567, posting a career-high 96 speed index.
The $12,000 winner’s share of the purse boosts his total career earnings to $432,059 and his record is now 11-5(2)-3-1.
Abelardo Flores Jr. trains Thecartelofmiracle for owner Mauro Luciano Villarreal, having taken over the gelding’s training this year. In 2017, Thecartelofmiracle won the Texas Classic Futurity-G1 and qualified for the Dash For Cash Futurity-G2.
Jose Estrada bred Thecartelofmiracle out of lightly raced Its Jess A Miracle. Thecartelofmiracle is the mare’s first foal.
Dan Grube’s homebred Desdemona Rambler (Tempting Dash-Kritters Effort) finished second under jockey Juan Garcia Jr. for trainer Gilbert Aguirre III.
Noe Villatoro piloted Get There (Fantastic Corona Jr-Jess Racy Eyes) to third for owner JCJ Racing and trainer Jimmy Padgett II.
Mighty Corona Jr (Mighty Corona-Jarons Jet), One Sweet Picky (One Sweet Jess-Sticky N Picky), Sir Edward L Perry (Sir Runaway Dash-Rebels Royal Lady), Flash Of Love (First Moonflash- Authorized Love) and Bellissima Chocolata (Valiant Hero-Heartswideopen) completed the order of finish. Blazin Moon Force and Jess Gone Streakin were scratched.
Texas Twister Stakes
THREE BAR CARTEL

Three Bar Cartel entered the 110-yard $15,000 Texas Twister Stakes at Sam Houston on May
12, having won three of four starts with all his wins coming at 400 yards. Shortening up to 110 yards also agreed with the 3-year-old gelding, who toppled nine rivals in the abbreviated dash.
Three Bar Cartel broke in third position, but quickly sprinted clear and defeated Whos Tempting Who by 1/2-length at the finish. With Jesse Levario in the irons, Three Bar Cartel stopped the timer in :6.957, earning a career-high 98 speed index.
It was the fourth win from five lifetime starts for the Abelardo Flores Jr. trainee. The $9,000 winner’s share of the $15,000 purse raised his bankroll to $156,565. It was the second stakes score for the geld- ing, who won last year’s Dash for Cash Futurity-G2 at Lone Star Park.
Owned by Ruben Garcia Montemayor, Three Bar Cartel was bred by Dr. Curtis Smith out of winner Eyesa Ridicolous To. She has produced 100% winners from two starters. Three Bar Cartel is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Whos Tempting Who (Tempting Dash- Sheaintcrynrealtears) finished second under Victor Urieta Jr. for owner Jose Fabian Hernandez and trainer Robert Meche.
Shake Em Rocks (Rock Solid Jess-Shake Em Fever) finished third under jockey Roman Huerta for owners Bob and Betty Moore and trainer Roger Moore.
