No Attain Moved To First In Mexican Bred Desafio Derby
No Attain (Bullish One-La Chuchena, This Snow Is Royal) was moved from second to first in the Mexican Bred Desafio Derby
at the Hipodromo de las Americas following the disqualification of Clasic Chic. No Attain, who was bred by Cuadra La Presita, was ridden by Jose Angel Ambrosio Medina for Hacienda San Martin Notario and trainer Fermin Uriate Salas. The sorrel gelding won the correspond- ing futurity in 2017.
Trainer John M. Cooper and Son Killed in Plane Crash
Quarter Horse trainer John M. Cooper and his son Gavyn died May 31 in Midland, Texas, when their single engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff. John began training in 2016 and has saddled 24 win- ners and the earners of nearly $450,000. Gavyn, 16, was a promising quarterback at Midland High School. John’s JMC Ranches is the co-owner with Jack Manning of the stallion Rock Solid Jess, winner of the Dash For Cash Futurity-G1 and the sire of over $2 million in earners. They are survived by Chassity Cooper, John’s wife and Gavyn’s mother, and Callie Cooper, sister to Gavyn and daughter of John.
High Rate Of Return Dies
2011 Heritage Place Futurity-G1 win- ner High Rate Of Return (Mr Jess Perry- Dividends Declared, First Down Dash) died of unknown causes on May 6 at Bob Moore Farms in Norman, Oklahoma. The 2009 stallion was owned by a syndicate and has been taken to Oklahoma State University in hopes of finding the cause of death. High Rate Of Return is currently the #2 lead-
ing third year sire of money earners. From three crops to race, High Rate Of Return
is the sire of 44 winners, 10 stakes winners and earners of $1.16 million, including top earner/2018 West Texas Futurity-G2 winner Suze Returns ($132,018).
WRS Special Shoe Dies
Graded stakes winner WRS Special Shoe (First Down Laveaux-Hava Zevi, Zevi TB) died April 9 at the age of 16 after a battle with colic. Owned and bred by Williams Racing Stables Inc., WRS Special Shoe earned $874,546 in a career that spanned from 2004 through 2012. From 74 starts at 13 different tracks in 8 dif- ferent states, the 2002 brown gelding won 23 races (11 stakes), placed second in 22 races (18 stakes) and was third 15 times (9 stakes). His stakes wins included the AQHA Challenge Championship-G1, Terrace Hill Stakes-RG3 (4-times), Polk County Derby-RG3, Iowa Double Gold Futurity-RG3, Central Juvenile Challenge-G3, Jim Bader Futurity-RG3, Farnam Stakes and 6666 Ranch Handicap. WRS Special Shoe also set two New Track Records, both at Prairie Meadows for 330-yards – once at four- years-of age in 2006 and other at eight in 2010.
Chris Kotulak Becoming Fonner Park COO
Chris Kotulak has accepted the position as chief operating officer at Fonner Park in Grand Island, Nebraska, where he was the track announcer from 1986-1994. Kotulak takes the position previously held by Todd Otto, who passed away in April. Kotulak, who most recently worked at Remington Park, which concluded racing on June 2, worked for 11 years on the Nebraska racing circuit calling races and in marketing.

Royal Quick Dash Dies
1991 Champion 2-Year-Old Colt/High Money Earning Horse Royal Quick Dash (First Down Dash-Harems Choice, Beduino TB) died at the age of 29 on May 7 in Brazil. Bred by Vessels Stallion Farm LLC, the
gray stallion won the 1991 All American Futurity-G1 and was fifth in the Kansas Futurity-G1 and Sun Country Futurity-G1. Royal Quick Dash is the sire of four Champions and over $20 million in earners, including APHA World Champion Royal Quick Flash, and 3-time Champion and All American Futurity-G1 winner AB What A Runner.
