LQHBA Sale Futurity-RG1
AMENDING THE BAR
by Danny Camp
Amending The Bar has won three out of four outs, each for a different trainer. Her latest gave her blacktype status with a victory in the $434,538 LQHBA Sale Futurity-RG1 at the Fair Grounds on Sept. 8. Amending The Bar came into the race with the second fastest qualifying time from the Aug. 17 trials after winning her heat by a neck.
The filly stepped away from the 8-post
in the finals on the lead and kept command throughout for a wire-to-wire run. She broke slightly to the outside, but quick thinking jockey Jorge Lineras straightened his mount immediately. Even though it was his first
time to ride the filly, he offered just enough encouragement so that they crossed the line 3/4-length in front. Amending The Bar com- pleted the 350 yards in :17.387, earning a 99 speed index. The first place check of $195,542 boosted her cumulative earnings to $215,616.
According to trainer Jose Sanchez III, “She was a $6,500 purchase at the Louisiana Yearling Sale. We knew immediately that she had talent. We knew the best way to get along with her was to just let her decide.
“That decision paid off,” Sanchez continued. “The owner Julio Cesar Ramirez is a good guy and he’s happy he has a fast filly. She is paid up in the million dollar race at Evangeline, so it looks like that’s what’s next for her.
“She’s been fast since the beginning,” he concluded. “We saw how competitive she was, pinning her ears back and never giving up. I’m so happy that she won.”
Ray and Brenda Trahan bred Amending The Bar out of winner Making Amends, dam of three winners from seven starters. Amending The Bar is her first stakes winner & top earner.
The filly’s second dam is La Primera Del Ano Derby-G2 finalist Waymaker Miss, dam of 100% money earners from 11 starters includ- ing Making Choices, who won the 2009 Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap-G3 and Garden Grove Handicap. She is also the dam of 2011 La Pacifica Handicap winner Warm It Up.
Third fastest qualifier Guidry Pride II (Sir Runaway Dash-Guidrys Boodie Doo) ran a steady race under Juan Garcia Jr. to finish second. The colt is owned by Edmundo Juarez and trained by Wendy A. Garcia. Guidry Pride II won the Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2 in March and has earned more than $219,000 this season.
Mr Coahuila (Game Patriot-Shes A Wild Babe) was third under Eddie Sanchez for owner Emmanuel Villarreal and trainer Jose Sanchez III. The geld-
ing was second in the Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1. Tetris B (Fast Prize Dash-Diva Eleanor), TDZ Slinkys Fire (Highest Fire-Dashn Slinky
Gal), RF Fast Dash N Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Fast Dash N Deb), Zoom By Me (Heza Fast Dash-Zoomin For Cash), Tan Jet (Jet Black Patriot-Tantalizing Eyes), Ri First Dash (Jess Louisiana Blue-PYC First Prize Dash), Logans Fast Dasher (Heza Fast Dash-Logans Game) completed the order of finish.
